Cable Mountain Lodge is located just outside the south entrance to Zion National Park and is the perfect spot for a family vacation. We drove up on a sunny April day and saw kids splashing in the pool under the towering red cliffs of Zion and we knew that we had found the perfect place to stay. When we walked into our Classic Suite-wall bed, we felt like we had come home to a beautiful apartment equipped with a full kitchen with granite countertops, a kitchen table, living room, large bathroom and master suite. My kids quickly found the rocking chairs out on the patio that overlooked the central grassy area with views of the cliffs of Zion on both sides. I knew we were going to have a great time.
WHAT WE LOVED:
* Full kitchen with large refrigerator, stove top, microwave, sink, toaster, cooking utensils, dishwasher, dishes and service for 6.
* Short walk to the pedestrian entrance of Zion National Park, the Visitor Center, and free shuttle to locations in the park
* Large and modernly rustic decorated room with king bed, pull out couch, and wall bed for our 6 member family
* Heated outdoor pool and jacuzzi
* Nearby restaurants, grocery store, IMAX Theater
* Views of the cliffs of Zion and access to the Virgin River
* Free Wi-Fi with no log-in
LOCATION Cable Mountain Lodge is located in Springdale, the touristy town on the road just south of Zion National Park. The last hotel before entering the park is Cable Mountain Lodge, which means you can't stay in a hotel closer to the park than this one! From every room there is a view of the cliffs of Zion and the Virgin River is literally a "stones throw away". From our upstairs room we walked approximately 1 city block to the bridge which led to the pedestrian access to Zion. Because parking is limited inside the park, and driving past Canyon Junction is prohibited between April and November, most travelers park somewhere near the pedestrian access and then walk over and take the shuttle. Bottom line is that when we left the park at the end of the day, we got off of the shuttle bus and walked to our hotel when others walked to their cars and drove to their final destination. We also enjoyed watching the IMAX movie of Zion, right next to the Lodge. Cafe Soleil and a Thai restaurant are within walking distance. Other restaurants are a short drive away. The Springdale shuttle stops in front of the Lodge with access to many stops in the town. A small market, art gallery and gift shop are right next the Lodge.
FULL KITCHEN For some reason I imagined a 70's style cabin in the mountain with an eclectic collection of kitchenware in the full kitchen at Cable Mountain Lodge. I was pleasantly surprised with the modern style of black appliances, granite countertops and a simple but complete collection of dishes for 6. The dark and rustic wood table with 4 chairs was beautiful and the perfect place for us to eat and play games later in the evening. We stocked up on groceries at "Lin's" in Hurricane, about 30 minutes away and on our way from Hwy 15 to Zion. There are several small markets in the town of Springdale near the hotel. We enjoyed an easy, but full breakfast in our room and then packed lunches and snacks in backpacks for our day in Zion.
AMENITIES My kids loved the novelty of the wall bed as we pulled down on what they thought was an armoire. It was quite comfortable. My 11 year old did not enjoy the floppy mattress of the pull-out couch and since he could feel the bars and springs below, he opted for the wall bed. Our king size bed was high, firm and incredibly comfortable. We enjoyed watching TV on the flat screen in our room with the door closed when the kids went to bed. The bathroom was large and modern with all the furnishings one would expect in a good hotel. The one thing that was lacking was towel rods or multiple hooks to hang wet swimsuits.
BOTTOM LINE We highly recommend staying at the Cable Mountain Lodge when visiting Zion National Park. It is perfect for families. We wish we could have stayed for a week!
We took and extended family trip and stayed at Cable Mountain Lodge right next to Zion National Park. Here is some advice - you MUST stay here if you are going to visit off season. The reason why - full kitchens! There is no place to eat off season, so book here and enjoy full kitchens, luxury, and the best access to beautiful Zions National Park. We had so much fun and Cable Mountain Lodge. The staff was friendly and accommodating - they even allowed my niece to use a room for studying college finals, even though we had already checked out. This is the place to stay, prices are reasonable, accomodations are amazing and you can't beat the kitchens!
This lodge is literally right next to the entrance of Zion National Park. All lodge rooms come with a full kitchen stocked with pots, pans, dishwasher (they even stock dish soap for hand washing and detergent for the dishwasher). We stayed in one of the suites, so there was a master bedroom. The whole room was decorated well with a high scale rustic, southwestern theme. The entire staff was knowledgeable and friendly. We took our 10 month old and it was a great balance between being able to be out in the park all day, yet come back to peace and serenity for naps and bedtime. It is within walking distance of several restaurants as well. The lodge is also a shuttle stop for the Zion shuttle which takes patrons (for free) to several stops within the town of Springdale and many highlights of the National Park itself. They give out discounts for the off-season and also for multiple night stays as well! The views are to die for...every room has some sort of canyon, red rock view! They also all have little balconies, which we took advantage of to relax while out little one slept. The shades definitely blocked out the light, so sleeping was not a problem. The pool is heated, beautiful, and has uninterrupted views of the rock formations and the starry sky at night. We loved it!
