There's those times when I am staring at Hotels.com or Kayak, or any of the search engines to find a hotel and I have to hold my breath as I book it in hopes that when I arrive, the hotel will be something of what was promised. 7 Springs in Palm Springs proved to be a winner. (Sigh of relief...)
Located just past the Ariel Tram, before the "tacky" part of the Palm Springs strip, this hotel is located in an ideal spot. We parked our car and didn't get back into it until we left. The hotel is walking distance to downtown Palm Springs, great restaurants such as notorious Cheekys, and a fabulous hiking spot we stumbled upon up the mountain behind the PS Museum.
The hotel itself feels very Mid Century Modern/European without being pretentious. The rooms are clean and fun (we had a giant Marilyn Monroe hanging over our heads), and the beds were COMFY (super important in my book). The inn and suites are designed Melrose Place style where they encircle a hanging out area of firepits, lounge chairs, a huge spa, and the pool. The staff was friendly, although the night we were there the lobby was not going to be manned 24-hours which always makes me nervous. But we didn't have any troubles.
As for "kid-friendly" we had two groups of children staying nearby our room. They were super respectful in the pool and didn't scream obnoxiously. I was actually traveling without my kids (first time in like 10 years), and felt I would have been comfortable with them being there, but folks with highly active kiddos may get a few stares. This place definitely gives a "I want to chill out and be calm" vibe. Also, there are a lot of Europeans staying when we were there and some take the "No Smoking" in the room as a okay to smoke on balconies. Twice we had to leave the spa because there were smokers overhead and the smell was too intense.
All in all, I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed my time there and would go back next time with my kids to explore the area more.
