ZooAmerica is called a wildlife park, which is a good description of it. It is smaller than a zoo, and more of an actual park that you walk around and see animals (in cages). I always viewed it as a great way to expose kids to animals in a small venue while making more of a day at HersheyPark.
The admission to ZooAmerica is part of the price you pay to enter HersheyPark. You can also go separately, and pay about $10 to walk around -- a trek that'll take you an hour -- or two if you're taking your time.
ZooAmerica is a nice, wooded walk and a great break from HersheyPark. My kids have always like to take a look around the place, although they don't rave about it. Are there better "zoos"? Sure, but this isn't meant to compete with them. My younger kids always liked it better than the older ones, so I would say the upper elementary grades and teens would find it hum-drum. But if you've got younger kids, especially animal lovers, it's a nice activity. Go as part of your day at HersheyPark and you lose nothing by trying it out. There are often even discount tickets as part of KidStuff or Entertainment books if you have either one. Enjoy!
ZooAmerica in Hershey is a very cute, little zoo. It is very small though. We've gone through it many times while we are at HersheyPark, and addmission is free this way. However, the prices are quite high if you want to just go to the zoo. For all the more that's there, I don't think it's worth paying the prices that they are asking. If your children love animals, it would be a good place to go, especially for very young children.
I thought this "zoo" was pathetic. As included with admission to Hershey Park, I was glad to have visited, but I could not imagine paying separate admission for this. It is only about 10 acres, and the exhibits for the bobcat and the aligator and crocodile are shockingly small. It was very disappointing. The animals overall looked sad/poor not as bad as some of the zooz i have been too though.
The zoo is much smaller than I thought it would be. I had my 13 year old niece with me and we walked the zoo in less than an hour. I wasn't that impressed. Since she wasn't into amusement parks it was a wasted drive. If you go as part of your admission it might be worth it.
You can enter ZooAmerica North American Wildlife Park directly through Hersheypark, and admission to the zoo is included in your Hersheypark ticket. The zoo is open year-round, not just seasonally, and a separate admission is also available. ZooAmerica focuses on plants and animals from different regions in North America.
Many of Hershey’s attractions grew out of Milton Hershey’s special interests. The rose garden at the Hotel Hershey developed from his own passion for the flowers, ZooAmerica started out with the animals Hershey collected, and the Hershey Museum sprang from Hershey’s original collection of artifacts.
