I have been to this soon many times. Each time I go, it gets worse and worse. The cages are too small for the number of animals in the enclosures. Vegetation is overgrown. The small stream and pond in the center of the zoo is disgustingly green. Flies overrun the place and several animals seemed to have bites on the tops of their ears from insects, including the lions. Speaking of big cats, they have several. They do not have very much to stimulate them, so they pace incessantly. There were large piles of drying out sod in several places along the paths of the zoo, along with long sat out plastic bins for (?), and an unused small boat/canoe which only served as a breeding ground for mosquitoes. I have contacted PETA, and I plan on contacting anyone else that will listen. This zoo needs a serious remodel or it should shut it's doors.
Since we live around here, this is our only zoo to go too. We have been about only 2 or 3 times in the 12 years living here. It cost too much for what you get and the living conditions of the animals is sad. The only time the kids want to go here is when it's Halloween because of ZooBoo. However it's for the candy and not the zoo itself. We actually drive 4 hours North of here to Alabama when we want to visit the zoo. Don't waste your money!
This is a relatively small zoo, but it is fun for a couple hours. There is a surprisingly wide variety of animals and there is a petting zoo as well. My one year old enjoyed walking around and seeing the animals. There are a couple shows scattered throughout the day. It was worth the $5 admission - we got discount tickets through the local military base.
Endangered animals and other rare creatures are among the inhabitants here. A pet-ting zoo and infant care facility are prime attractions. You can buy a bucket of feed for $5 and even pet a giraffe.
