This is really a beautiful quiet area with an ancient sugar mill possibly Pre-Civil War days(?)-- I am not so sure. Anyway, the land lot where this mill ruins encompasses is really remarkable and best of all admission is free. The ancient oak trees seem to guard the secrets of this place and remind you ancient age of this place. This is eally worth seeing if you are here in Crystal River as I think as there are hardly any sugar mills to see here in the south as far as I know. I think children will enjoy nature here and a good picnic to boot (which unlike Crystal River Archeological Park) has no river/waterway.
If you are on a road trip just north of Tampa Bay, you can stop for a nice picnic lunch at this historic site. Nestled among moss draped oak trees, these ruins make an ideal backdrop for casual family photos. When we visit the manatees at Homosassa Springs, we often picnic here. It is quiet and interesting. There are a few informational sign boards which tell the story of the old sugar mill and surrounding lands.
Here, the state has preserved relics from Florida’s sugar production era. The crumbling mill structures provide a lovely background for a picnic, sheltered by time-dignified live oaks. Explore at your leisure along a self-guiding path.
