"Great Family day out"

The Logger is a wonderful train, and the four mile ride through Sierra is breathtaking. Its so amazing to be riding on a steam train through the mountains as they did so long ago. For an added experience you can have a cook out under the stars before an evening train ride. Its a great way to cap off a day in the park.

"Sugar Pine RR is a blast!"

While tickets are pricey it's totally worth it. Sugar Pine has a working steam engine train that takes you on an hour tour of steam engine logging over 80 years ago. You have the choice of sitting on a car or sitting on the "logs" the train is hauling. They are logs that have been carved into benches for passengers and I must say they are pretty darn comfortable. The staff is super friendly and they know their stuff.

"Beautiful scenery"

This quaint train meanders through the most beautiful Sequoia redwoods.  It isn't a cheap ride, but it was very fun.  Very kid friendly and all of the children, especially the little boys, were having a great time.  Staff was friendly and the scenery breathtaking.

"Fun with the Family"

A major destination for families with younger children. You might want to plan a couple of hours here riding the train, picnicking, and enjoying the beautiful forest. An eighty-four-ton vintage locomotive—the largest ever built for a narrow-gauge track—pulls open cars 4 miles through forestlands into Lewis Creek Canyon. It’s exciting to
climb aboard at the tiny station while steam rolls out from under the huge engine and black smoke belches into the sky. A conductor spins tales of when the railroad hauled
timber out of the Sierras.
Watch out for masked horsemen, who are known to stop trains searching for passengers’ loot. There is a gift and sandwich shop and the Thornberry Museum in a 140-year-old cabin. For a fun preview of the train whistles, bells, brakes, and other exciting noises, and to see a few photos of the trains, go to www.ymsprr.com/sightsnsounds.html. From June through September a “Moonlight Special” evening train excursion ends with a steak barbecue and live music around a campfire ($$$$).
Next door at the Narrow Gauge Inn, the Victorian era and the Old West come together in the restaurant and Bull Moose saloon—cozy in cool weather when logs burn in the big stone fireplaces (209–683–7720).
