"Always fun"

This is SO BEAUTIFUL. They also have a ship that can be explored (inside the museum). That is always a major highlight of our trip. Keep an eye out and you might see the Fife and Drum corp! This is right by Yorktown Beach and you can see where the General Cornwallis hid in the cave when he didn't want to surrender.

"Better for young historians"

While 00Husband and I enjoyed walking around the battlefield, 00Toddler wore out quickly.  We walked much of the battlefield loop which is part of the larger, self guided driving tour.  The paths from site to site are not stroller friendly, but the quarter mile walk to the Victory Memorial and waterfront is.

00Toddler loved walking through the boat inside and enjoyed pushing buttons for the children's display, though he's too young to pay attention to the actual presentation.  When he's older and learning about U.S. history, we will definitely go back.

Biggest tips- leave the stroller in the car if you want to walk the battleground, bring plenty of water, and be prepared for loud announcements over the speaker system when you are in the restroom.

"Fun with the Family"

Here is the site of the finale of the American Revolution, October 1781. This National Park Service site features the battlefield, which includes Washington’s headquarters, the surrender field, and the Yorktown Victory Monument. Park rangers lead tours of the British inner defense line. Stop by the museum at the visitor center, and at the center see a fifteen-minute film on the siege of Yorktown. On display in the visitor center is one of the tents used by George Washington during the Revolutionary War. In 2007 a new exhibit featuring George Washington’s field tent opened. A glass enclosed walk-through enables visitors to pass through the tent. There are also new hands-on activities in the Children’s Gallery. The Junior Ranger program is available for children up to the age of 12 for a nominal fee.
