The trail is a good distance. It took us about an hour to finish the hike. It is cut out well, and you can get a nice map from the office. They do not charge, but ask for a 3 dollar donation for each adult which you can willfully place in a box next to a sign-in sheet, or not if you want to be greedy. A lot of the trail is very shaded, so even on a hot day there are places to relax for a minute. Some parts of the trail are steep, but that's what makes it fun!
Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve has been around since the early 1970s and was founded to protect endangered species and hundreds of native plants, animals and birds in the Hill Country. There is over 200 acres of wilderness and beauty and visitors can hike over 2 miles of the trails. Great quiet place to get away from the city, house and telephones! Its just beautiful and a great learning experience for the kids! Don't forget the camera! PROS: Relaxing outing for the whole family!
