"Walking in beauty"

We came out for a picnic dinner at the Natural Bridges State Beach and walked a little bit of West Cliff Drive afterwards. One end of the walk is at the look-out point at Natural Bridges and a great place to enjoy the sunset. It's not over the water, but over some hillside houses, but still beautiful. My 3-year old could care less about a sunset, but loved running up and down the beach towards the water.

The walk is a bit crowded, so be sure to keep your little ones close. I'd recommend using a stroller or bikes to help keep the the smaller ones going.

"Great spot for a stroller walk"

You can't go wrong with a family walk along the cliffs any time of year.  Foggy or clear, the wide stroller-friendly path is great to stretch your legs.  You can walk all the way to Natural Bridges at the South end of the road.  Stairs along the path lead down to sandy coves and stretches of beach.

"Live like a local-"Cruz" Westcliff"

This is a amazing path along a cliff on the Monterey Bay.  Walk it often enough and if you are a Santa Cruz native you will always run into someone you know.  The whole world converges to walk, stroll, rollerblade, bike or run along Westcliff.  The views are spectacular.  If you are lucky you may catch a glimpse of some dolphins.

Feeling contemplative...stop to say a prayer at St. Joseph's shrine.  Kids up for an off road adventure? Nearby Light House field has plenty of territory to explore and some hidden monarch butterflies at times during the year?  Bringing the dog? Head down the dog beach during the early morning and late evening hours when dogs are permitted.  Hungry? Stop by the Taquaria Santa Cruz on Mission, pick up a burrito, and have a cliff side picnic on a bench?

Visiting in June?  I'll be the woman walking along with two preschoolers and a skate boarder.  Wish me luck!
