Weeping Rock - .5 mile round trip to a charming alcove. Continuous water "weeps" out of the alcove, keeping lush hanging gardens moisture. The view from the alcove is unique and pleasing and showcases Observation Point. The short hike is steep but most kids have no problem with it. This is the shortest trail at Zion and well maintained.  Closed in the winter.

"Oasis in the desert"

When we first came to Zion's so many years ago, I could not believe how lush parts of it are! I expected something more like Bryce Canyon or Arches in Moab, but instead was met by green grasses and trees abounding on some of the trails. The Weeping Rock Trail is steep, and with a little one you'd want to use a backpack (love our Deuter KidComfort). In the summer months, we also always use a sun cover whenever hiking around in southern Utah because the sun can be brutal and even with a sunscreened baby or toddler, sunburn can sometimes be inevitable. We did this trail last year when we were down in Zion's and it was really satisfying as it's not too long but the views are really nice.

"Short trail, nice view"

This is a very short trail that will reward you with a beautiful view of this part of the Valley. The ground around Weeping Rock is slippery so you have to be careful if you are going with shoes that are not made for hiking. Water is dropping slowly from the rock, making a curtain of small drops. It is beautiful.

"Perfect Family Hike"

If you go to Zion National Park, this is a family friendly hike that you should take your kids on.  The trail is short and a bit steep but okay for kids.  Many of the other park trails are much too steep for young kids.  This hike takes you to the amazingly beautiful weeping rock where plant life grows abundant.  You and your kids will love getting "kissed" with the water running out of the rock.  The trail can get crowded so its best to get their early during the busy season.

"Steep!"

We first visited Zion National Park in mid-July 2010 when the temperature was 112 for 2 weeks straight. We skipped the weeping rock trail because of the heat and because the trail looked a little steep, even though the views would have been incredible. Neither my husband nor I wanted to push our 17 month old in his stroller up the trail. We waited until September and brought our trusty baby bjorn, which made all the difference because the trail wasn't just a little steep, it was very steep, and wet in places. Even though it's paved, it would have been to difficult with him in a stroller. So if you have a toddler who doesn't want to or won't walk up a steep hill, bring a carrier!

"Perfect for the whole family"

The Weeping Rock trail in Zion National Park is a short, beautiful hike to a lush overhanging garden.  The trail requires a hike up a fairly steep incline, but it is well worth it and is suitable for kids of all ages.  The trail is only about .5 miles long.  It gets its name from the trickling water that runs over a very large overhang in the mountain side.  You will not be disappointed.
