Weeki Wachee is great. And it's been around forever! The water park is great! Small, but plenty to do. And the park itself is a lot of fun. Awesome animal shows, a few rides, and who can forget the mermaid show? Seriously, where else are you going to go & watch a "real live" mermaid show? The kids will really enjoy this one.
I can remember my Grandfather telling us how him and my Grandmother brought my father to Weeki Wachee Springs when he was a kid, so obviously this has been around awhile! It stands the test of time that's for sure! Mermaids underwater right before your very eyes! It's really a neat thing to see, kids get such a big kick out of it! I can't wait to take my daughter there someday and tell her that her Great Grandfather took me as a little girl! Reccomended for kids of all ages, ask around, everyone probably knows someone who has been here!
Who can't resist seeing Mermaids?! This has been around for a while, but it still is a classic to visit. They show is really cute, and I like that it's centered around the natural spring. There is also plenty of places to picnic, and there is some beautiful scenery. The kids really get a kick out of seeing the Mermaid show, as well as the adults!
You have to go here for the nostalgic aspect!
I love the low-tech "magic" of the mermaid show. It is actual people dressed as mermaids swimming under the water, occasionally taking air from hoses. You view it through a big aquarium window. It is neat to see the real marine life swim by at random, like the turtles.
Even if you don't get a chance to go to the water park next door, it's still fun!
This is an old Florida classic theme park! I had fond memories of my childhood visit to see the Weeki Wachee mermaid show and knew that my little mermaid would also find the experience memorable. This park is kitschy charming. Bring your picnic lunch or buy some basic fast food staples at the snack bar. The live mermaid show is adorable and the tunes they sing are very catchy. In fact, I'm humming the "You've got the world by the tail" song right now! There is a wildlife boat ride narrated by a local tour guide/boat pilot which will give you a glimpse into the landscape surrounding this spring. You'll see all sorts of lush greenery, birds, turtles, fish, and maybe even an alligator!
Please keep in mind that this is an old, small, park that development nearly forgot. If you are looking for a slick adventure for your family, drive about two hours east.
We were excited to go here because of growing up in Florida and the history of the park. The park is really going to be exciting for kids that love mermaids. The boys weren't that impressed watching the mermaid shows. The boat ride wasn't anything special after seeing the glass bottom boats at Silver Springs.
The plus is that the water park is included in your ticket price but we didn't make it over there because it started to storm. The water park is in the spring water so it looked enjoyable when we were walking by. Something different than your normal chlorine parks.
Since 1947, the springs’ famous mermaids have been staging underwater mermaid shows, which appeal to kids with stories of Pocahontas, the Little Mermaid, and other kid heroes. You watch from the comfort of an underwater theater with windows onto the clear spring waters. Other shows involve exotic birds and birds of prey, plus there’s a river cruise. The former Buccaneer Bay waterpark has been folded into Weeki Wachee, offering springs beach swimming, bumper boat rides, and flume slides in summer and some holidays. Canoe and kayak rentals are available. As of
press time, litigation is pending that will determine the future of the park. Call ahead before your visit for more information.
