Waioli Beach State Park

"Best surf, nice beach, not great swimming for kids"

The Waioli Beach State Park was a nice place for my husband to get out in the surf and play (he rented a kayak from Kayak Kauai, who were very nice and quite helpful).  The beach is a really nice for the kids to play on (in the sand) and swimming is only advisable under certain conditions for everyone.  There was some shade off in the grassy areas.  There are also picnic tables to sit at in those grassy areas.  We brought along our solar tent to help with that a little bit.  There are also some bathrooms and they had showers to rinse off in outside.  There were some shady characters around, but they didn't bother us (just kept a close eye on our gear).  Parking wasn't a huge issue, although the spot we picked was busier.  We would go back, but only for the surf.
