The Virginia Zoological Park is a great way to spend a spring or fall day with the family. It has a variety of animals to see however the giraffes sometimes do not come out of their housing so the kids get disappointed. My children (age 6 and 3) overall have enjoyed this zoological park everytime we went and they especially like the water activities in the front of the park so make sure to bring a bathing suit for your kiddos. Right outside the Zoo is a children's park that we always go to afterwards and have lunch and let the kids play.
We have been here before both with just the kids and then again with friends and their kids. According to the children who between the 5 of them the oldest was only 5 years old, they couldn't get enough. They are in awe of the animals. Both the park and the zoo are clean and neat and well kept. We have done picnics in the park area in middle of the zoo experience. The boys favorite was a tie between the elephants and the monkeys. Appropriate since I have a climber like a monkey in my group. I will most likely go there over and over since it is near my friend's who are with the Navy there still.
The zoo has a pretty small assortment of animals, but has recently put in a train and is building an African exhibit. Has all the traditional animals a zoo would have. It is a small zoo, you will be done in about two hours. Like most food is way overpriced, but we were never given a hard time for bringing in food, and the price for a family pass is unbeatable.
For being so big, there's not a whole lot to see here. Bring your walking shoes and plan for a LOT of walking. Everything is spread far apart and a lot of the exhibits, you can't even see the animals because they are hiding. We've been a couple of times (went back after renovations) and weren't impressed.
We enjoyed this zoo but it really wasn't anything spectacular. To be fair, they were about to open a new area with large cats at some point. There was a small train ride that my son liked. The food at the food court was not good at all. There wasn't enough room to eat so we had to eat outside with all the bugs. It was a nice family day but we wouldn't go back.
My family and I live in Virginia Beach and we frequent the Virginia Zoo. It is a great place with extensive exhibits. Especially fun to see is the African exhibit. The zoo train is, in my opinion, a bit of a waste, as it simply circles the middle of the zoo. There are great options for expanding on what you learn through enrichment programs and great savings with membership.
We went here for the first time this year,Although we all loved the train we were kinda disapointed when we road around the park and didnt see anything. But when we started walking around we quikly realized there was a lot more to see. The had a little petting zoo that was like a little farm. On the other side they had elephants, rhinos, zebras, giraffes and plenty other animals.
I would recommend that you bring swimming clothes, as soon as you come into the park they had a area where the kids can play. Also the price was extremly cheap..havent been in a park for that price ever!
The zoo in Norfolk is small, but still fun to bring the kids to! We took our 14 month old and he had a blast! For him it was nice, because he could walk around and enjoy himself and it wasn't too overwhelming for us or him. The train ride was nice as well. It gave us a behind the scenes look at what goes on at the zoo. Small..but still lots of fun for the kiddos.
The Norfolk Zoo is small compared to many, but the kids still have fun. It's been going under contruction so not all the exhibits are there. They recently added a train ride which my kids just LOVED! The Zoo also has a section where you can feed the animals. In my experience, it's something you can do for 2 hour out of your day and your kids still have fun. Is it worth the money? I think it will be when all the construction is done.
I loved taking the kids here. They loved seeing all the different animals. Most if not all, were able to be viewed up close and personal. The food is pricey and you get small portions, but if you don't mind its a pretty neat Zoo. I'd go again! Be sure to bring your walking shoes though...its a long walk!
This family-oriented zoological park has been adding new exhibits and has achieved an even stronger focus on family activities. Not large compared with some big-city zoos, the Virginia Zoo offers a fun outing for families, especially those with younger children. Among its nearly 400 animals are Siberian tigers, a diamondback terrapin, a clouded leopard, a two-toed sloth, a Masai giraffe, gelada baboons, and a white rhinoceros. In the African exhibit, roaming animals such as elephants, rhinos, and zebras are free to move about with other compatible animals they might encounter in their natural habitat.
