This is somewhere that you can take any age to have fun and learn new facts! It's really fun being able to get close and personal with things that have happened at the Capital! My children loved running up and down the stairs! :) Go there to learn a bunch of new things about the state of VA!
It's always interesting to see something that makes history. And the art of the building will really catch your eye. When you go to the Capitol make sure you see everything that you are allowed to see. I really think that seeing history is the best part of things!!!
The majestic Virginia State Capitol, designed by Thomas Jefferson in 1785, reopened in May 2007 after a $74 million renovation. Guided tours of the grounds reveal myiad statues including the famous life-size statue of the Washington by Houdon, said to be a good likeness.When Jefferson designed the capitol, he was minister to France, and he mod-eled the building after an ancient Roman temple in Nimes.The historic building houses the oldest law-making body in North America, and the first in the world to function under a written constitution of a free and independent people. Try idetifying all eight Virginia-born presidents depicted in sculpture around the rotunda: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, Zachary Taylor, and Woodrow Wilson.
