Effingham’s only indoor mall is very basic: one rectangular strip with stores on both sides. But the fact that it has few frills—no boutique carts or potted plants—makes its open aisles great for strollers and wheelchairs. Bring along a few quarters, and your tot can ride on a tiny motorcycle, Noah’s Ark, or merry-go-round.

JCPenney anchors the mall at one end. Merchandise for sale in 30 stores includes clothing, shoes, music, and gifts. There’s no food court, so don’t plan on a meal; an ice-cream cone will tide you over.
