Park and home to Veterans Oasis Lake, trails, and Environmental Education Center
Let me just start off and say that this isn't a typical family park. There are not any play structures and not a ton of picnic tables. However, there are lots of trails for walking, running and bike riding. We always see people fishing in the large lake but we've never tried it out. This weekend we wanted to take advantage of the "cooler" weather. I was thinking a hike but didn't have time to drive too far. We've been here before and I knew there were a few paved walking trails. This time we decided to venture off the paved trails and explored the dirt trails. I am not sure how many different trails there are but we "hiked" around for about and hour and a half and walked over 2 1/2 miles. There are 3 or 4 other water retention areas that give life to lots of bushes and plants and even some large trees. There were some families riding bikes. It wasn't too busy and we felt like there was plenty of room and space, seriously it's much bigger than it looks from the parking lot! There are a few hills and it was fun to get a view of the surrounding area. There are many great places for photography! On our way out we visited the building on site. They have a few live caged desert animals inside.
