This 1,146-acre nugget of nature abutting the northern border of the Bronx has a hodgepodge of habitats, ranging from woodland to swamp, and red foxes, bald eagles, and even coyotes have been seen here. Nature trails loop through the woods, past a lake, and along an abandoned railway bed. Stop by the Forest Ecology Center for a map and to see the flora and fauna displays, then head over to the eighteenth century Van Cortlandt Mansion. Furnished in period antiques, this was another place George Washington slept, as did the Van Cortlandt family slaves. The farmland that surrounded the house has been converted to ball fields, and to the south are the Moshulu and Van Cortlandt golf courses, the latter being the oldest public course in the country.
This park has golf, lakes, and parks for children. Its a place where parents can take their kids to run and play. There is a running track and a place to play handball and paddle ball. They also have a public swimmimg pool.
