"Sprawling, Manmade Rafting Facility "
On our route to Charlotte, we cross the Catawba River. Since it cuts through the lowlying Piedmont it was never meant for whitewater rafting, at least until 2006. That's when the U.S. National Whitewater Center opened a sprawling, manmade rafting facility just off I-85 in Charlotte. Integrated with miles of biking and hiking trails, the U.S. Olympic Committee has designated the center as an official training site. But there's plenty there for the average family.
The center includes the world's largest manmade recirculating river, which forms a two-hour Class III/IV rafting adventure for ages twelve and above. If you have a younger set, there's whitewater kayaking for ages eight and above and flatwater kayaking for all ages. In addition, there's a climbing center for everyone over age four. And finally, the Eddy Restaurant provides a panoramic view of the facility in addition to selections that range from soup to salmon to steak. Keep in mind when planning, World Cup, Olympic Trials, and other competitions are held here and may limit availability to the public.

"Whitewatercenter"
The Whitewater center in Charlotte, NC is just awesome!
They have a wonderful rapids area for kayaking and rafting. Plus TONS of mountain bike trails for all different skill levels. There are ziplines that go along the side of the rapids as well as an assult course to challenge everyone! They also have a restaurant with a huge patio overlooking the rapids. It's a very fun family outdoor area!
