Closed New Year's Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
For Constitution Island Association tours, take boat from West Point's South Dock, June through September. Tours depart 1pm and 2pm every Wednesday and Thursday. Reservations recommended.
As cadets, Robert E. Lee, Ulysses S. Grant, Douglas MacArthur, and Norman Schwarzkopf marched here, as did astronauts Buzz Aldrin, Frank Borman, Edward White, and Michael Collins. Tradition and a strong sense of duty, honor, and country are evident everywhere, from the Cadet Chapel, with its spectacular stained-glass windows and the largest church organ in the world, to exciting football games and precision parades. Visit the Military Museum, where dioramas depict famous battles, galleries highlight the history of war and West Point, and rotating exhibits drawn from more than 15,000 artifacts may include Napoleon’s sword, Hitler’s pistol, or MacArthur’s bathrobe. Stop at Trophy Point, where some of the 300-pound links of “Washington’s watch chain” rest. Nearby are Battle Monument and Fort Putnam, a partially restored Revolutionary fortification overlooking West Point. For an interesting side trip, take the boat from West Point’s South Dock to nearby Constitution Island and explore the Victorian Warner House and gardens.
