This fully restored landmark is Kansas City's most prominent destination for cultural and entertainment activities. Some attractions include the Kansas City Rail Experience and Science City.
The first time you go to union station, you should make sure you bring plenty of money. Unless you AND your kids are history buffs, this place has almost nothing to do that doesn't cost a bunch. They have a Science City attraction which is cool for kids and adults alike and is very fun the first few times you see it but it doesn't change so once you have seen it a few times, you've seen it all. Union Station also has plays and movies which is nice, and they have touring attractions, exhibits that our in town for a short while. We went to the Titanic one which was pretty neat. Overall, Union Station is nice but a little monotonous if going more than once and pricey.
We had such a blast exploring the old Union Station in downtown Kansas City with my in-laws this summer. There is a KC Rail Experience complete with a model train display that is out of this world. There are two resturants and a great science museum (that is extra) inside as well. The architecture is breath-taking and they have various traveling exhibits there as well. When we were there, there was one about dinosaurs that was great fun.
Union Station is a nice building to visit. It houses several exhibits that change every so often. The building itself is free to enter, and it's architecture is expansive and nice to observe. But if you want to view the exhibit(s), you'll have to purchase tickets, which can get pretty expensive. I'd suggest visiting if there is an exhibit that is a definite interest for members of your family (we went to the Body exhibit a while ago), but otherwise maybe waiting until there is an exhibit of interest to go to Union Station.
This is an awesome building that recently received a complete makeover. It has several attractions inside that are a lot of fun for children. There is a dinosaur walk, a science museum and a restaurant, for starters. My kids were amazed at the tall ceilings and enjoyed just walking around inside. I enjoyed the trip and am glad that the building was saved instead of razed.
This venue has some of the best exhibits in Kansas City for kids. It's fairly easy to get around and the architecture of the building is fabulous. Easy accessibility for strollers and convenient parking. we plan on taking my son to the dinosaur exhibit soon. Also convenient to Crown Center (fragile, kaleidoscope program, etc).
Union Station looks amazing on the outside. It's a converted railway station and a beautiful building. But I think they need to keep working on what is inside. The museums and activities are fun, but much too expensive for what they are. My kids are young, so perhaps older kids would enjoy it more. Still a must see for Kansas City.
We loved, loved, loved Union Station! We also visited the Planetarium, and The Railroad Experience the same day. Pricey for a family of 5 as we did all it had to offer, but so worth it. The kids loved trying the different things, such as the weighted bike that they have to figure out how to work. Was a great idea!
Union Station is free to get inside, but the exhibits and events cost extra (and it gets pricey fast). Science City has a ton to do for a large variety of ages. The have a dino sand pit where you can dig for bones, a critter room where you can see birds, snakes, turtles, a water table, music section, the rooms go on and on. There is a toddler to under age 8 area with play equipment. For extra you can add the Planetarium and IMAX and make a day of it.
This is an excellent place to take any child. There is so much to do and see, it is just plain fantastic. It is somewhat expensive but can you put a price on learning while having an amazing time. Any child would love to explore the walls of the Union Station in Kansas City.
