Undersea Tour

"A great way for families to explore the kelp beds without getting wet"

My kids are too young to snorkel but we still wanted ot be able to see what life was like under the sea near Catalina so luckily we were able to take the Undersea Tour. The Undersea  Tour is a semisubmersible boat (kinda like the submarines at Disneyland) that allows families to peer through windows out at the kelo bed inhabitants.  My kids were over the moon when they saw all sorts of fish swim by their windows (I am sure the fish food that the boat operators threw out helped make the production more lively).

I have to say it was very cool to be able to see the fish that live off the California coast since all I have ever seen while snorkeling are tropical fish. The only bummer was that i didn't think about the fact that I could get sea sick on the boat (I get sea sick on car ferries so it really should have not been a surprise) and I forgot to take dramamine before I got on the boat. Luckily, they let me go up top for some fresh air. It was nice to see the fish from above and really get a perspective on just how many fish there were.

Bottomline: Pop a couple dramamine and take the trip. I would definitely do it again with my kids because they really had a blast. I have heard the night tours are even more fun so maybe next time that is what we will do.  If your kids are too young to snorkel or swimming in chilly water isn't your thing, this is a great option.
