A great and unique way to learn the history of Seattle. After the great fire of Seattle in 1889 the city of Seattle was rebuilt on top of the ruins. The 1 1/2 hour tour explores the underground passage that once were the main roads and storefronts of old downtown.

The tour is moderately rugged terrain. Make sure you were good solid walking shoes.

"Good for older kids"

It was a very fun and quirky tour, and I'm glad we took it.  But the humor during the tour would probably have been very lost on younger children.  It was neat to go hike around under the streets of Seattle and made for a fun history lesson.  It definitely give you a taste of the culture and history of the place.

"Very Unique Experience"

I went to Underground several years ago and I was amazed by the amount of history and locations that were shown in the tour. It is really cool to think about a city being built on another city, and this tour does a really good job at showing that diminsion with their materials and information. The most fascinating part that I saw were the glass panals in the ceiling which are still a part of the sidewalks in Seattle today. They are there to allow for light on the lower level. Overall, a great thing to experience if you are interesting in Seattle history at all.

"Great historical Tour "

I loved this tour in Seattle, but I'm not sure it'd be great for toddlers or children who are bored easily.  This tour is full of historical and interesting information but this may be boring for kids who have no idea what it all means.  I haven't done this tour with my children but definately recommend it for adults and possibly children over the age of 6.  Or if you have a baby, they probably dont' mind being carried. This tour is not for strollers, so leave them behind.  You are taken through tunnels and up stairways, very rocky and uneven walkways.

"Historically interesting, not for small children"

I took this trip with a girlfriend and while we enjoyed it, I would NOT recommend it for kids.  It's kind of cool to be underground, but the pace of the tour is slow with most of the information given by the tour guide.  Teenagers who are interested in history would enjoy it.  The tour is about an hour if I recall, but you have to buy your tickets ahead of time and there are only certain hours it's given throughout the day so you might want to stop by in the morning, buy your tickets for a later time and then do something else in the meantime.  You can take the free downtown bus to other attractions while you wait.

"Love, love, love this tour"

First off, this is not an activity for families with small kids. I agree with the rating mentioned on the page for this activity- at least age 7 and up, maybe even older. It would be a fabulous thing for any family of pre-teens and teens. It's the one thing that I always recommend to my friends who are visiting Seattle.

The Underground Tour is a quirky little tour that actually takes you under the streets of Seattle to see some of Seattle's lesser known history. The tour starts out with a very funny introduction to Seattle history, done while you sit in a restored saloon. Then you are split off into groups of about 20 people and led through  a small part of Seattle's Pioneer Square and underground to see the hidden part of the city.  The tour guides are hilarious and the underground itself is fascinating.

Seriously, if you're a family with older kids, you will all have a great time on this tour. It's a must-do.
