Ok, my last visit here was back in the early 90's and I didnt really think much of this place. I was in my teens and thought this place of having very overpriced unique stuffs in different stores situated like a plaza in a very dark tunnel. Back then i felt safe because I was with a group of gals and it was during afternoon hours. Having read the reviews below, I would suggest to just check out this place once if you are visiting Atlanta in ONLY in daylight time with friends or a group to enjoy as an adult. This is a TRUE long tunnel and it is DARK and dank. I myself would not bring kids here because it isnt family friendly (very dark even during daylight hours, strange people can go in and out here anytime, etc). Other than that, I would skip this place overall because Atlanta has other fun sights than this.
Underground Atlanta is a must on any trip to Atlanta. There are a wide variety of shops and places to eat. We always love to check out the kitschy stores and then grab some delicious cookies from the Great American Cookie Company. Plus, there's usually some entertainment for the kids, like ballon animal artists.
We heard a lot about the underground so we decided to go check it out. It was dark and felt unsafe. We only went in one of the shops and weren't very impressed. There was a little bit of history and a plaque to read at one end but that was about it.
We had heard a lot about Underground Atlanta and thought that since we had a little time to kill we would stop for a little shopping. However, we did not feel at all comfortable with the atmosphere. It was quite crowded, and the general crowd mostly looked either homeless or as if they were part of a gang. I would not take a family here again.
Not a place I would go more than once. One of those Atlanta sites you go to so you can say you have been there. Dark and scary place with lots of shops that are over priced and carry lots of junk. Definitely not a place I would take small children to.
Underground Atlanta was a great place to visit (during daylight hours) when I was younger, but now it is mostly just scary. I wouldn't go there much less take little ones! There are too many good places to go to in Atlanta to waste your time there. High crime rate and really a scary place to visit, spend your time elsewhere in Atlanta.
Underground Atlanta is underground for a reason. What used to be a neat, unique area has turned into a crack-den for Atlanta's "finest". Crime happens often and there is nothing that you would want to see, much less want your kids to see. Steer clear of Underground and spend your time somewhere else more family-friendly.
This is the worst tourist trap. I took my daughter because it is one of those 'things you need to do in Atlanta'. The kiosks and shops are mostly overpriced junk. It is very dark and just feels unsafe. Our taxi driver even warned against staying after dark! In our book, this is a MUST NOT DO. I have heard from other people that they enjoy the nightlife without their kids but that's just not how we vacation.
