We took my daughter here a few weeks ago to play at the playground. While I am not fond of sand in public places, I loved the playground.
It is very large and even though there were lots of children there, we didn't feel crowded. There is parking around the playground or within close walking distance.
Tyson Park has a really nice playground and picnic area. The equipment is pretty spread out so that it's never really overcrowded. There is one of the slides that is really fast, like fast enough to send kids shooting off the end. It was pretty fun for the older kids, but most of the younger kids were a little scared. They have a sand pit to play in and several swings to enjoy. There is a skatepark nearby and a greenway if you enjoy walking. It's a great place to take the kids to play.
Lots of areas to picnic at this park and the playground is huge! Mostly designed for larger kids, but toddlers will be able to play on parts of the play equipment. However, note that you should go early in the morning of later in the day on summer days since some of the slides are metal and can burn the children's skin while sliding down. Also connects to greenway system, so a great way to get in some exercise as well!
