Tweetsie is more than a train. It's an institution, a tradition and a legend. For children, it means a trip back into the Wild West, helping the US Marshal fight off howling renegades and would-be train robbers. It also means music and entertainment, exciting Country Fair rides and arcades, and lots of good things to eat.
Tweetsie is a great place to take the kids to. There are so many things to do with the little ones there, and they have a real train ride!! We went on a day out with thomas and had an awesome time. The tickets are a little pricey but its worth it to see how excited the kids are over going. Great place, good times.
We were so surprised at how big this park was. Our kids really enjoyed the real train that took us around the park and the show that went on, meanwhile. I loved the beautiful scenery and that there seemed to be something for all ages. If our children hadn't been so little, we could've spent all day. I also liked that the park was divided, so the older kids weren't on the same attractions as the little ones.
Grrreeat for the kids....I mean who doesn't like cowboys and indians. They have one of the last clutch driven ferris wheels and the fastest on the east coast and fun things like panning for gold and the carousel. But the main thing is riding on the old number 5 train and watching the cowboys and indians battle it out while hearing the steam engine whistle and smelling the coal burning. Suuuuper time for the kids and you adults will love the many things to do here.
While we enjoyed our time at Tweetsie, it seemed most of the things were geared toward children younger than my daughters (11, 9 and 8). In fact, I looked around at one point and realized there were only a handful of other kids who appeared to be in the same age range as my girls and they were all with younger siblings. We didn't spend much time waiting in line for any of the rides which was a plus. The park is beautiful and every employee I saw was smiling.
My husband expressed disappointment in regard to the train ambush. The show has changed since his childhood visits and he found the current version 'watered-down' and 'hokey.' Our girls were entertained by the show but when asked about Tweetsie, the first thing they mention is the other rides. "I wanna go back and ride the Tweetsie Twister, the chairlift and the Ferris Wheel again!"
If you have kids under age 8 and/or kids who love trains, Tweetsie is an excellent place to spend the day. The admission price made me wince; I don't plan to take my children back. Every ride at Tweetsie - with the possible exception of the chair lift - is available at other places with more to offer older children.
Overall, I'm glad we went and I do recommend a visit to Tweetsie.
It's a slice of life in western North Carolina and worth a visit. Great for kids up to 10 and don't get a "burnin' cinder in your eye" riding Tweetsie. One day will pretty much allow to take it all in. Try to avoid the holidays if you don't won't to wait in lines.
You might think they need to beef up security when you take a ride on the Tweetsie Railroad, because it seems robberies occur on every single trip. Tweetsie, located just north of Blowing Rock, is a great park where you take a trip back to the Old West.
You’ll enjoy dozens of great rides as you walk through the theme park, where you are more than likely to meet up with a gunslinger or a Native American chief. You can also visit a century-old general store, a blacksmith shop, and a jail.
Another option is a mining town, where the children can pan for gold or meet the animals in the petting zoo. But the biggest attraction here is old Number 12, a steam locomotive that takes you on a 3-mile journey around a mountain.
You never know when robbers or Native Americans will hop on board, so stay alert. Plenty of traditional theme park rides provide hours of entertainment as well. In October you can enjoy a haunted house, visit a mad scientist’s lab, and go trick-or-treating at the Tweetsie Railroad Halloween Festival, which features rides on the ghost train. While the escapades at Tweetsie might be
amusing to adults and older children, they will seem very real to young children. Use your discretion when determining whether your children will enjoy a ride on the train.
Kids and failies will enjoy this "western" themed park which features a train ride, (3 miles through the mountains), cowboy shows (which kids will think are the real thing). It's not as large and overwhelming or expensive as a major amusement park and that's good!
I remember going to Tweetsie as a child and now my Nephew loves it! It is great fun for the kids and something different than the typical amusement park. I can't wait for my son to get a little older so we can take him! I just know he will love it too!
this is another place that i remember visiting as a kid, definitly a fun place to take the children for the day, i remember the live cowboy show of course at the time i didn't realize it was just a show. it's a fun place to go and isn't just your everyday amusement park.
Our most recent trip to twitsee we went when bob the builder, algelina ballerina, and i think barney was there? My 2 yr old son LOVES bob the builder so we HAD to go! lol I have been to twitsee when i was younger but not since i had been married I loved it!!! Who knew we had such a great place soo close to home! the tickets are usally discounted at our local bank so we got them there and save like 50 bucks! Theres so much to do we didnt get to see it all or at least it didnt seem like it! I can't wait to go back!
Kids love the train ride and the robbery skit they do. They offer rides at the top of the mountain for small children. They have events that include Thomas the train, Dora and Diego, and other favorite TV characters. Don't forget to visit the saloon and see the can-can girls before you leave. A great family trip, but it was kinda expensive for tickets.
We LOVE to go to Tweetsie. There are so many things to do while you are there. The park includes rides, live shows, mining for gold, great food, etc. We like to go when Thomas the Tank Engine is there. So excitng to have Thomas pull the tweetsie train. The staff are so sweet and down to Earth. Great Family place to take children of all ages.
We just love Tweetsie. It is just some small town kind of fun. Not a huge amusement park by any means, but irresistible all the same. In fact the size of it is a plus in my opinion. It is not so much that you can't see it all in one day. And it doesn't completely wipe out the family in the process. There is an area that reminds me of going to a county fair. The kids especially love the petting zoo. But the best part is definitely "Tweetsie" the train. A short ride with some cute stops along the way. And it is over before the kids get squirmy.
This is an absolute must see for little boys, especially during the week that Thomas the Train is in town. This is just good clean family fun. Every hour the train makes its way around the mountain and everyone stops whereever they are to wave! Souveniers were not outrageous prices, staff is very friendly. Because we went after 3pm, we got in free again the next day!!!
Would go again if my boy hadn't already outgrown his love for trains!
Tweetsie is a great place to go for a train enthusiast. If you time it when Thomas the Train is there your child will enjoy it even more. In addition to the ride, which is ambushed by bandits (but saved by cowboys), there is also the petting zoo. It's not a great deal for the price but the kids do like it there.
My husband and I took our daughter (2 1/2) and son (3 weeks) to Tweetsie Railroad in June of 2009. Other than picking a poor day for weather, we had a wonderful time! The park is perfectly suited for younger children. We loved that DD could ride everything and we never had to explain that she was too young for any of the rides. The food in the park is a bit expensive, but that seems to be the case everywhere these days. Our favorite activites were riding the train and taking the chairlift up the mountain. It's definitely somewhere we'll be going again!
Tweetsie has fun things to do for kids of all ages.
From the train ride to the shows, to all the rides, its certain to be great for the entire family.
Its also close to many other attractions in the beautiful mountains of NC! So grab the kids, and head on up to the high country.
My family has visited this small park for three year now because Thomas the Tank Engine comes to the park each year. Our son is a fanatic and it is a must see for our family. Compared to the other places you can go ride Thomas thisis one of the best attractions because there are other rides and things to do. This park is very small and is on a the side of a mountain. Be prepared to walk up and down inclines. One good thing is that there is usually a good breeze even though the sun is beaming down.
