Truckee River Raft Co. is located on River Road/ Highway 89 in the heart of Tahoe City, California. It's a leisurely, self guided, five mile float down the Truckee River. The trips usually takes about two to three hours to complete and we are the only rafting concession that exits directly onto the River Ranch landing. Pack a lunch, drinks or just sit back and enjoy the view. Patrons can catch a free shuttle bus back to their vehicles at anytime before 6 p.m. daily. $5 off if you avoid peak time traffic between 10am-2pm. Check website for more discounts.
If you're up on the North Shore of Tahoe, floating down the Truckee River is great fun. When we don't bring our own equipment, the Truckee River Rafting Center provides you with a raft that fits up to 20 people, paddles and life jackets. The trips are self-guided and you're able to just go at your own pace and jump in at any time.
They also provide you with a shuttle ride back to the starting point which saves you a lot of time. Be sure to pack a lot of water and sunscreen because it gets hot and you might end up in the water more than the raft.
If your child is not a good swimmer, I'd recommend keeping the lifejacket on them. The river is very calm during the summer (it's more of a drift than a whitewater rafting adventure), but there's always the unexpected. For older kids who are swimmers, they usually ditch their jackets pretty early on.
My 2 year old isn't really keen on water yet, so we'll probably wait to take him down the Truckee until he's a bit older. 3 hours on the boat is a long ride.
