"Great for Families"

Today I took my 5 year old and 2 year old to Tracy Aviary. It is located in Liberty Park just  south of downtown Salt Lake City.   The parking is free and this is an activity that could easily be paired up with other activities in the park.   In the winter Tracey Aviary often offer weekly discounts (look it up if you are planning on going http://www.zap.slco.org/zapArts/html/generalInfo/freeEvents.html or on their Facebook page.)  We did this and we all got in for $2 for all of us.  We spent about an hour there and the kids had a lot of fun exploring the exhibits.  We got there just as a bird encounter show was starting.  It was a lot of fun.  My daughter was picked to have a falcon fly to her.  My son (the 2 year old) had an unscheduled bird land on his head and he freaked out and was done with the show.  It was a fun little show and I would suggest it, as long as your little ones can handle the possibility of a true close encounter.  The rest of the park was  great for the two just to wander and discover.  They asked a lot of questions and did not want to leave.  It was a nice change from the usual afternoon activity.  *Stroller friendly.

"A fun little find"

A hidden treasure in Liberty Park. The aviary offers some great bird displays and fun shows for bird lovers of all ages. The kids enjoyed wandering around and seeing the wide variety of birds that are housed here. A fun find and worth the price for an afternoon.

"Tracy Aviary"

This place is amazing!  I took my little one here a few weeks ago with a mom's group and we had a blast!  The kids were so interested in the birds and there's even a little play area for the kids if they get restless.  I also heard they do a great storytime on Wednesday, though we haven't experienced it yet.  We will definitely be back to the Aviary soon!

"Ok but done in a hurry"

This was a neat place just to go and do something different.  It's not a huge place so we were done with the whole thing in about an hour.  I feel like we could get the same experience except a whole lot more by going to the zoo.  It feels like a good cause to support though.

"Educational and fun"

Our family really enjoys Tracy Aviary.  My kids love to look at all the different kinds of birds, and my husband and I enjoy it as well.  It is well shaded so that even on hot days you can enjoy everything.  Our favorites are the owls and the bald eagle.  Great for people of all ages.

"If you like birds, "

I was worried that my kids would only be semi interested in the Aviary.  It's just like the zoo, but there are only birds.  I was totally wrong.  And I think that I may have loved it more than they did. There is a bald eagle and a pair of golden eagles, and it is incredible to see them up close.  It was a lot of fun.  We went on a "free" day, because I really feel like the prices are too high.  If that wasn't the case, I would give it 5 stars.

"Birds and More Birds!"

Tracy Aviary is a fun place to go with the kids to see lots of birds. There are exotic birds, bald eagles, vultures, flamingos...lots of different kinds! My 2 year old really enjoyed it, and the price is great. I think it's only a few bucks per person. You can take a lunch and have a picnic whle you're there too.

"Fun little bird place"

My family likes visiting here when the weather is warm in the winter.  On Wednsdays it is only $1 for admission during the winter.  My 3 year old enjoys chasing their free roaming peacocks.  The last time we went we went to a show and while the shoe was informative, the bird keepers were not very good about interacting with chidlren.  They kept letting the birds fly over young children and would tell the children to stay in their seats, even though few young children would be able to do so.  If you plan on going with young children that would have a hard time staying in their seats, then sit in the front row on the side of the arena so you won't be in the way.  That's what we did and I didn't struggle, while other paretns did.

"It's more fun than expected!"

Tracy Aviary is surprisingly a lot of fun!!  The whole family enjoyed it!!  ...From 2 years to 70 years old.  The grounds are beautiful and there is quite a variety of birds to see.  Do not miss the owl exhibit and especially the bird show!!  They ask for volunteers during the bird show and it's tons of fun entertainment!  We all laughed so hard and have pictures to remember the fun so tuck a camera in your bag if you plan to go.

"From a childs perspective"

I remember going when I was younger and I liked it. It is also inside a park and there is a fairis wheel right out front which isn't part of it but was still fun. There are SO many types of birds here and it's not to big to where your kids get tired of walking. I've heard they even have new exhibits. My only con is that it is so small that it wouldn't be worth a long drive to see. So unless you have another activity planned or live nearby I don't think it's worth it.

"Great for a half-day adventure!"

We love going to the Tracy Aviary!  Sometimes I take my kids somewhere like the zoo and it's huge and takes a long time to trek around it.  The Aviary is smaller, so it's perfect for a few hours...plus it's at Liberty Park, so you can go right out and enjoy everything the Park has to offer after your visit.

Tracy Aviary has a diverse population of birds that are amazing to watch, but our favorite things to do there are to see the bird show and feed the conures (colorful Amazon birds).  The bird show is free.  Feeding the conures costs $3/person, but is well worth it.  They give participants sticks with fruit on them and let you into a large bird enclosure where the colorful birds sweep down and eat from your hands.  We have been the only ones in the cage before, but usually this is a popular activity and is filled up quickly.  It is a great photo opportunity!  There is also a Pelican Encounter in which you toss fish to the pelicans ($3/person) and some awesome educational talks with bird keepers placed throughout the park.

"Surprisingly Fun!!"

I have to say, I wasn't thrilled about this activity the first time we went, but surprisingly, it was a lot of fun! I never thought walking around looking at a bunch of birds would be enjoyable, but the grounds are gorgeous and they have a lot of unique, interesting displays. The kids loved it! It's all outdoors, so bundle up in the wintertime.

"The place for future avian scientists"

You know that an attraction is kid friendly when your 10 year old walks away saying, “this is the best day that I’ve ever had”.  Then he promptly goes home to look for a book on bird-watching at our library.

I took my kids, aged 10, 7, and 2 to the Tracy Aviary.  We spent 3 hours walking around this small aviary, enjoying the exhibits, informative speakers and the best bird show that I’ve ever seen.  This aviary is very small, located in the southwest corner of Liberty Park in Salt Lake City.  But what it lacks in space it more than makes up for in awesome volunteers and employees.  It seemed like everywhere we went; a volunteer was offering interesting tidbits of information about all of the birds.  The aviary is currently undergoing some construction and will be adding a new education and guest services building, opening 2012.  We can’t wait to return when that addition is complete.

The best part of the Tracy Aviary is its bird shows.  We attended two of these shows that were offered during the day and enjoyed them immensely.  The trainers did a wonderful job utilizing several child and adult volunteers from the audience and offering so much interesting information about birds.  My son and I were both lucky enough to be volunteers – allowing us opportunities to hold individual birds on our arms!  The venue for the bird shows is small with only three rows of seats making the experience intimate and unique.  Several times throughout the show, birds fly just inches over the audience’s heads – my toddler loved this.  Another of my kids’ favorite part of the aviary was just feeding all of the water fowl.  They loved picking out the cutest babies and making sure that they were well fed.

The aviary is very well shaded with huge Cottonwood Trees. The only really sunny area of the Aviary is the southeast corner, so I would suggest seeing these birds earlier in the morning, or later in the evening if visiting during the summer.  There are some very nice picnic areas and they allow you to bring in food and coolers.  There isn’t a snack shop within the aviary, only soda vending machines, so it’s best to bring a bag for snacks and water bottles.  There is only one restroom and water fountain area, so I would suggest taking advantage of this facility when you walk by it.

I would recommend taking your kids to this wonderful aviary.  I was pleasantly surprised at how much my kiddos loved this place, resulting in some budding avian scientists after our trip to Tracy Aviary.
