Experience what it was like to be a coal miner in the 1850's and today. Your guides are experienced coal miners, who will treat you to an amazing, educational tour 160 feet below the Earth's surface.
You’ll have to wear a miner’s hard hat and mind your head as you board a mining car, modernized for comfort and electrically powered, to travel a 0.5-mile underground at Tour-Ed Mine and Museum into a genuine coal mine. Your tour guide, a real miner, will help you learn about the history of coal mining. It’s chilly down here, so bring your sweater. This is not for the claustrophobic.
Kids will enjoy a tour in a locomotive on the surface to see a demonstration strip mine and auger mine. You can also see the company store, 1785 log home, and sawmill. You can even see a bedroom set up like the ones where the miners slept. There are covered picnic areas and snacks available.
