So many cool things to look at (the buildings from the pioneers). The way the town is set up is really interesting but we were really frusterated that NONE of the buildings were open yet they charged the same rate they do when they do have the buildings open, That was SAD.
My children LOVED This is the Place Heritage Park the first time we went. This village setting offers train rides, lots of demonstrations and displays on pioneer life in utah, pony rides, animals, and more. We enjoyed wandering around checking out all the cool buildings and learning bits about how people lived when Salt Lake was first settled. The whole park is transformed at Christmas time too, which is lots of fun.
This is the Place Heritage Park is said to be the place LDS leader, Joseph Smith said to begin building his community. It is a beautiful park setting with many park benches and picnic tables. In the spring and summer months, it is full of flowers and greenery to enjoy. Bring a lunch and enjoy the afternoon in a beautiful setting.
We get a pass to This is the Place every year. With a membership you get unlimited train rides and activities. My kids love playing in the stream and panning for gold. They also have fun riding the ponies and at the petting zoo. There are dirt roads there, so be prepared to come home dirty but happy!
I wasn't expecting much out of This is the Place Heritage Park, but it was a really fun activity for our family. The pioneer village was well done with a school and church and other real-life pioneer buildings. We rode ponies, a train and a hayride. We watched a puppet show and did a craft. Since it was in October, there was even trick-or-treating at several of the old pioneer homes. We had a good time.
Even if you are not religious, this is a great place to take the kids to learn about some utah history (and US history) . My 3 year old especially loved riding the train, getting ice cream, riding a mule, and pushing a handcart. There is tons of area to bring a lunch and have a picnic. The monuments are amazing!
I really enjoy taking my children to outdoor places - Utah weather permitting, of course. :) And I also love hands on activities. This is the Place Heritage Park satisfies both of those! I also love this park because it is a great way to learn about Utah and Utah history. Fun activities, animals, a train ride - so fun! And they have really fun seasonal activities too!
I was surprised when I visited how big this park was! (It is right across the road from the Hogle Zoo.) They have expanded it and there is a lot to do with kids. Make sure you ride the trains (both the big and small one). You can go on a pony ride and play in the small wooden playhouses. Kids can pan for golden nuggets and try several crafts in the historical homes. Make sure you stop by the Hunstman Hotel for a scoop of ice cream before you leave.
We went just after it had turned to "Harvest Season" at the park so many of the buildings were closed. We still really enjoyed our visit. The train that takes you around was the highlight for our little guy. And the older kids enjoyed seeing what life was like in pioneer times. There are many hands-on activities that are fun for all. The pony ride was a favorite!
There are a lot of activities at the This is the Place Park. The streets are wide and you can generally get a seat on the train that goes around the park. There are plenty of things to see and do throughout the park. You can easily spend several hours at the park and not do the same thing twice. It's a little dusty and hot in the middle of the summer without much relief, so be sure to bring water!
I love, love, love this place and I need to get back there again! The setting is old pioneer village, with "houses" and things that look like the real deal. Feel like you stepped back in time, you will see people walking around in pioneer clothes, find activities to do such as make your own bricks, and during the spring they let you pet all the new baby farm animals. It's just great fun, especially to show kids that are a little older like perhaps over 5 a new experience and help them appreciate what they have!
We took our son here when he was almost three, along with older friends and cousins. There seemed to be enough of a variety of age-appropriate activities that all had a wonderful time. Our son was particularly fond of the train, the pony ride, and panning for gold. The banker who exchanged the gold for candy was fabulous in his character portrayal.
There was so much to see that I recommend taking your time and having a plan. Also bring lots of food and water because it will take ALL DAY. My brothers made some toys while we were there and they still play with them. The staff is very educated and answered all our questions, SUPER FRIENDLY. We all loved the different stores. I don't think any younger kids would truely appreciate it. It is a lot of walking and not many small children activities. Probably 8 and older. But I would also consider just going with my husband. It is really close to the Hoogle Zoo so if you live far away it would be worth it to see both.
This is the Place Heritage Park is a wonderful place to take your kids to learn about the pioneers who crossed the plains. It features many original buildings from Salt Lake Cities early history and workers dressed up in pioneer attire ready to tell your family all about the past. The staff is very knowledgeable and the park even puts on plays sometimes during the summertime.
We love this is the place. It's a perfect multi generational activity that will appeal to everyone. If you have never visited Utah before it's a must-see as you can learn about early settlement with hands-on activities and see restored versions of actual pioneer houses. Lot's to do and see you could spend the better part of a day here.
We enjoy simpler activities and this park fits the bill perfectly! Spend the extra $$ to go into the village. It's worth it to see the people dressed in pioneer garb and watch the different activities taking place. Kids are able to make a few fun crafts and learn about how life was for Pioneers. Even if you aren't religious, this is a great place to learn about American history. The park is beautiful too- located up on the east bench of SLC.
So fun! The view is fantastic, and the big field they have in front is great for picnics or a game of frisbee. Lots to see and do in the park. Our son loved that it was all walking around (but safe, as there are no cars, etc), and lots of hands on activities. The people are very friendly and love kids.
We enjoyed visiting this place for their famous Easter Egg Hunt. There were thousands of people, so most kids left with only 1 egg but it was fun to take the kids and get together with friends since it was Free.
Historical place, where you can learn about the history of the first settlers of Utah and the pioneer life.
This place is right in the middle of the city, very close to the Hogle zoo , close to the east bench.
This is a great place to spend a day. They have done a really good job recreating the pioneer times. There is so much to look at you won't be bored. They often have fun things going to keep kids of all ages entertained. You not only have fun, but you learn so much too. The people who work there all dress up in pioneer clothes and are so knowledgeable. Your family will really enjoy this outing.
This is a wonderful place to visit and see how pioneers lived over a century ago. The children love the train ride. It's also fun to play some of the games pioneers played, look at the houses in which they lived, and check out their gift shop. Overall a very pleasant experience for the family!
