I live down here and yes I visit this place often. Mostly because my daughter loves the build-a-bear workshop. The problem with this place is its off the beaten path. Its away from the beach which is good and bad. As Ive read, some people had a hard time finding this place.
The best part about this shopping complex is they usually have a variety of concerts and special events. Its good for the local crowd as it gives us something to do as well as for the toursists. The shopping however leaves much to be desired. There is a lot of specialty shops, which may not be everyone's cup of tea. Not that I have looked, but I can imagine most of the things to purchase are not cheap.
Bottom line is, its a nice place to watch a movie and maybe walk around a bit. It wants to be a destination and a tourist trap but ends up just failing because it doesnt appeal to the locals.
This is a nice venue to take a stroll through. There are many cute shops, restaurants, marina, theater and ferris wheel. The ferris wheel is HUGE! I haven't had the guts to go on it yet though as I don't do heights very well. It is beautiful at night when the sun goes down and the lights go up.
There is plenty of shading and if your kids can walk it makes it easier on the parents. Our oldest was 3 and had two in strollers. It is a good way to catch fresh air and let the kids have fun while wearing them out. You have shopping and food in one place, a woman's dream and even a man's since they have "manly" stores there too. There are both an upper and a lower section of stores along the wharf. The boys enjoyed the knife store like daddy and I did. It is right near the water and a good swimming beach is just miles away. This is great for in the spring right when the water is warming up but it is still cool enough to catch the breeze and be outdoors with young ones in tow.
The Wharf is a wonderful little Orange Beach secret!
We live just east of Perdido Key and come out here instead of going into pensacola for or "date nights".
Great Race theater that is never too busy!!
Lots of little boutiques and gift shops..some a little trendy/pricey...but you can always find something different here. I jsut love the beachy, on vacation feeling here! Ferris wheel is a big hit with kids and they've added a zipline as well.
Concerts all year long and great activites for families throughout hte year. last winter we did Christmas photos with Santa with the water in the background! Wonderful. They also have a little ice rink!
Add the wharf into a stop at the beach or a drive through Gulf Shores and it's a great day for locals or visitors
Visited with our two year old. She enjoyed the Ferris Wheel. If I remember correctly there were zip line like things for older kids. Shopping and restraunts - a good evening outing after a day at the beach. If I was short on time there would be other things I'd do before this. Only worth the trip if you have the leisure time and want to check out something a little different.
The kids will love the Ferris wheel that is in the middle of the shopping center. It is a little pricey so we didn't take a ride, but we sat on a bench and watched it go around and around. That was entertaining enough for my two young children. There are a few restaurants so you can enjoy a nice lunch. There is a BuildaBear right in the middle of the center where the kids can make a stuffed animal to take home. Get directions before you go...we missed the turn twice while driving there!
