"Good for an evening out"

We walked through this Village Green while strolling in Downtown Palm Springs after dinner one evening in Nov.  Nothing was open (the General Store or Agua Caliente Museum) but it was still interesting to look into their windows.

It was fun to see all the old-fashioned items for sale in the General Store window such as "Fells Naptha Soap".  We didn't stay for long because nothing was open, but also because the area was not well lit and there wasn't much to do.

"Fun with the Family"

The most interesting historical site in this charming complex of vintage desert cottages is Ruddy’s 1930s General Store Museum (admission 95 cents). Thanks to Jim Ruddy, a Depression-era liquidator, this intimate museum re-creates a general store right down to the vintage containers and fascinating displays of unused merchandise, from soup cans to hairbrushes. This is one of the nation’s most complete displays of items from yesteryear and is sure to generate a lot of questions from kids about shopping before the advent of Wal-Mart, QVC, or the Internet. Miss Cornelia White’s house, built in 1898 from railroad ties, is also popular here.
