Let me start by saying, you are going for the experience, not the food! The Varsity has been in Atlanta for many many years and has truly become an icon of the city. It's an old drive in eatery serving burgers and dogs. As you walk in, you are greeted by the familiar call "What'll ya have?"
This place is loud and busy - which makes it great for families. No one is going to notice your messy child. And what child doesn't love hot dogs and fries?
If you are visiting Atlanta, or just driving through (it's right on the interstate in the middle of the city), take time to stop in and check it off your list!
The hot dogs, fries and Varsity orange drinks are to die for! We have eaten at this amazing drive-in several times, both outside and indoors. We really enjoy the speedy service and atmosphere. The prices are extremely reasonable, especially since it has continued to build notoriety over the years. Worth the visit! The food is awesome!
The food at the varsity is very greasy, although it is prepared quickly.
The place is loud, though, and the order takers are always yelling "what'll you have?" over and over. Now, die hard Varsity fans think this is great but if you're ordering for a large family, I find it really difficult to hold my train of thought while they're waiting impatiently and yelling all around me.
I try to avoid the Varsity when we're downtown. It's also hard to make it through there with strollers. There are stairs. It is convenient to parts of downtown ATL and I think there's a Marta station that connects to it, too.
We first saw this popular hot eating spot featured on the Travel Channel. So when we were visiting in Atlanta and saw that we were near enough to stop and eat here, we were extremely excited. We were not at all disappointed. The food was simply amazing (the best hot dog I've ever had!) and the atmosphere is one of a kind. Everyone should have a chance to visit the Varsity at least once in their lifetime! WE hope to go back many times.
This is a must stop everytime we go to Atlanta. My husband just loves this place. The lines are long, the food is okay, but the atomsphere is awesome!!! It is always soooo busy. I will say that we stayed in Kennesaw last time we went to Atlanta and found a Varsity near the mall and tried it...just as good but no huge lines. The one downtown you have to try once for the experience but after that....just go to another of their locations.
Whatcha Want?! Watcha Want?! That is the pressure you feel when you eat Varisty. But, it is there unique that makes them like no other. there food is so good, my mouth is actually watering for a cheeseburger from there right now. You also have to try their orange julius while you are there. This place is a definite staple if you plan on going to ATL for vaca!
Who DOESN'T love the Varsity??? What a great place to eat! The entire eating experience is so retro! There onion rings are amazing. Plus their frosted oranges are THE BEST EVER. Don't forget to pick up one of the Varsity hats while you are there too. Whady'a have? :)
My 4 year old LOVES Varsity chili dogs. This place is a landmark in Atlanta, and you simply can't visit Atlanta without stopping at Varsity. They have curbside service, so we stop here every time we visit the Centennial Park's water fountain so we can have our chili dogs by the fountain before playtime. Be careful not to visit after a Georgia Tech or Braves game has ended, because the place becomes packed - but who can blame them?
The Varsity is a must do when in Atlanta. The food is greasy and not all that great it is just the ambiance of the visit. A hot dog with slaw and onion rings are where it's at. Busy from the time you walk in and you better know what you want when you get to the window. When you go you have to get a paper hat!!!!!!
You have to go to the Varsity when you're in Atlanta-it's just an experience. Tons of history behind the restaurant and get your little ones a Varsity paper hat! It's a fun treat to get a chili dog (or "neked dog") and fries or onion rings in Atlanta from the Varsity. Great food (and greasy) and view.
Woah! Hold on to your hats! The Varsity is a madhouse form the get-go. Know what you want when you get to the counter, otherwise you get "the look". The hotdogs are good, but don't be surprised if your belly is full halfway through. It's a fun place for the kiddos, be sure to get them a Varsity hat!
I know that lots of people just love this one. Maybe we went on a not so great day or something. We pass it all the time when we go see shows at The Fox....but no one has ever asked to go back. We just remember how greasy it was and how blah we felt after all that grease. We like a good burger and fries, but just didn't taste the greatness. Sorry.
When you're in town, you must go to the Varsity. It's not because the burgers are great (although the onion rings are the real thing and mmmmm....those frosty orange drinks are just yummy)...it's because it's THE Varsity. You just have to go for the experience. Oh, and don't forget to get a Varsity hat for the kiddos!
Who could resist the hustle and bustle of the Varsity? Plenty of parking, but beware of all the one way streets! We were very happy to have our GPS. As soon as you enter the door, all the buzz and activity hits you. "What'll Ya Have?!" rings through the air. Don't be shy. Just walk right up to the counter and order. The workers are pretty rash and abrupt, but they have to be to serve 2 miles of hot dogs daily! Plenty of seating available to sit and relax. Great rest rooms w/ diaper changing facilities. Don't forget to pick up a Varsity paper hat for all the kids and visit the gift shop! Grab and frosted Varsity Orange or a peach pie for desert and you will be in heaven!
The food here is only okay, yet they are always busy! It is an Atlanta landmark for sure. It's often used as a reference point when giving directions in downtown Atlanta. The food is greasy and not that great but it is kid friendly and all the memorabilia on the walls is sure to entertain. Something about it feels like a piece of history as soon as you walk in.
The food is really greasy and not the best, the onion rings are good and the frosted orange. It's a neat place to visit because you get to see a lot of the history of Atlanta. And the people who work there really love their job and it's fun to hear them say, "what do ya have." And their prices are very reasonable.
Okay, this is one of those places that is a must do. The Varsity has been around since 1928 and is the world's largest drive in. Honestly, the food is okay but nothing to write home about. The best thing that we had was the frosted orange which tastes a lot like a creamsicle. Make sure you know what you want when it's your turn! You can check out the menu online so you know what to expect.
