The Swedish Cottage is loads of fun and worth the price.  For $8 bucks you can have an indoor puppet show.  The show's about half an hour long, and my 16 month, and 5 year old were thrilled and loved it.  You can make reservations as late as the day of, but you must make a reservation as they have no way to take the money for the ticket at the cottage.  Take the 81st street west side entrance into Central Park and it's just before you on the left.  There are plenty of places in the area for food, snacks and your only steps from the 68th street playground.
