This concrete buoy was erected by the City of Key West in 1983.
Beat the crowds and show up at sunrise. The colorful skies are beautiful!
We saw the southernmost point while riding the conch train tour. It's a pretty neat landmark and a great place to take a vacation picture. There are also many souvenirs of the southern most point all around keywest so you can take it home. The view from the the landmark is also pretty amazing.
We had to go to this place twice to get a decent picture of our family next to the "sign". Each time it was very crowded and there were long lines...just for a picture. It is all worth it though to be able to say you've been to the Southernmost Point.
If you are in Key West, you HAVE to go by this spot for a quick photo. We took a bike tour to this well photographed landmark. Easy to find, the painted concrete buoy is always crowded with tourists and locals alike. It was windy the day we were there which made for great splashy waves in our photos. Be prepared to wait your turn. Be creative and this photo might end up being one of your family favorites.
I am only giving this 3 stars because it is not that interesting but it is something kids may find "cool" and we do have pictures of our kids here. It is a large, painted, cement replica of a buoy. It is 90 miles from Cuba and is the southernmost point in the continental USA. If you go during school holidays, you may have to wait your turn to get up the statue to take pictures. It seems like that is what people do there- They are physically there and prove it in photos.
