The flower show is usually held as winter is winding down, but we haven't yet had any spring weather or flowers to speak of. What a great time to indulge in the sweet smell of all of those lovely blooms! There are wonderful arrangements that are way beyond what any of us normal gardeners could accomplish in our gardens, as well as suggestions and displays that are much more doable. It's a nice opportunity to get some landscaping ideas if you are looking for that, but I have always just gone (with children and without) to take in Spring and lift my spirits out of the winter doldrums.
The show is very kid-friendly, with plenty of room for strollers. While kids cannot touch most of the actual flower displays, they can share in the beauty of it all, and they usually have plenty of kid activities.
The Flower Show is a nice way to spend a morning or afternoon with kids, and a terrific spirit-lifting activity at the tail-end of winter.
All proceeds from the Philadelphia International Flower Show, including tickets and sponsorship contributions, support The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and its acclaimed urban greening program, Philadelphia Green. The show is a great place to get landscaping ideas for the house or just to learn a little about different types of flowers. There were lots of activities for children. They really enjoyed the exhibit on how flowers grow.
