Bus tours to the Naval Base depart from the Naval Base Tour Office, 9809 Hampton Boulevard. From March to December, bus tours also depart from the Waterside Festival Marketplace. Possible security restrictions may result in the base not being open to tours. It’s best to call ahead. Also, those over 18 are required to show photo ID and vehicle registration.
The only thing of interest is the ships lined up on the docks. Most of the buildings are older, look dirty. The traffic is very heavy. You are limited to what you can do and see if you are taking a tour. When taking the tour though, you are given a lot of great history.
The Norfolk Naval Base is so cool seeing those big boats i have a friend on one of the naval boats so i actually got to go aboard and it was absolutely amazing to see the inside of those boats and how big they actually are on the inside but if you aren't careful you could bang you head tall people definately need to duck your heads....
Norfolk is home port to more than one hundred ships of the Atlantic fleet and is the world’s largest naval installation. Forty-five-minute-long bus tours go past fleet training centers, the Jamestown Exposition (a group of restored 1907 structures now used as homes), and aircraft carriers. Bellied up to the port, these gray behemoths are huge.
