This is one of the most incredible Modern Art museums in the country. Home to famous pieces such as Vincent van Gogh's Starry Night and Paul Cezanne's The Bather. This will open up your child's eyes to the world of contemporary art.
The MoMA runs a series of Ford Family Programs which introduce you and your kids to the world of contemporary art through guided walks, art workshops, artist talks, film screenings, special events, activity guides and Web sites. Programs are available for children from age 4 through 18.
The website has lots of creative ideas and advice to make a visit to the MoMA as fun and engaging for the kids as possible. Ideas include designing your trip around certain topics or themes depending on the age and interest of your kid. Bringing crayons and paper to let their own creative juices flow.
Admission is free for all visitors during Target Free Friday Nights, sponsored by Target, every Friday evening, 4:00–8:00 p.m. Tickets for Target Free Friday Nights are not available in advance.
...and I am not one of them. But, MOMA is still something fun to do in the city! I remember coming here on a class trip and, although I was not savvy to the meanings and inspirations behind the artwork, it was still lovely to look at and interesting to see. I think children should be a little older to enjoy this one more. If you are not an "art person" I do believe you can still enjoy this attraction.
This is a fun museum! You don't have to worry about making a little noise and the art can be enjoyed by just about all ages. The youngest kids will enjoy the bright colors and black and white art that is spread throughout the museum and older kids will enjoy all the very cool exhibits that are in MOMA. Don't forget to check out the cool corner of the museum with reflecting mirrors that juts out of the museum where you can stand on a ledge and check out the nice cafes and the garden inside the museum. A great place to go with an awesome gift store!
The art is unbelievable and the whole family should have a blast. Ask for the children tour map at the entrance to make sure that your kids will get a nice experience. It does not show the whole museum but it shows enough to make everybody happy. My youngest was in a crappy mood that day but when she saw the huge Pollock painting, she just became happy again, the magic of art. She could not believe that she was in front of the painting seen in the Olivia book. The Rousseau painting was fantastic: looking for animals in the jungle will keep them busy for a while. Do not miss the sculpture garden (and admire the Maillol sculpture, Maillol is from my dad's village so we were very proud!).
We had a nice time and really enjoyed visiting that museum.
For info, we had bought a combined ticket Top of The Rock/MOMA and that saved us a little money (they do not have to be visited the same day).
If you are lucky enough to find yourself in New York, please take the time to go to MoMA. I wish I had stayed the whole day to really appreciate and enjoy the variety of art pieces! This is a wonderful place for children but do a little research first so that your children can fully enjoy their MoMA experience.
the best part of this muesum is it's location - right at the heart of central park. check out the different types of exhibits and there should be new displays that are great for little kids. the cafe on the roof is a great hang-out for sight-seeing and the kids would love the pond that's near the egyptian exhibits. not too the most kid-friendly atmosphere but there are lots of different exhibits to explore.
This is a great museum for older kids - say, 7 yrs. of age and up. But with a well-behaved baby this can be a great visit too. It is a smaller museum, so you can get through it in under an hour if needed. They do many family programs, especially on weekends. Check their wesbite for their latest offerings - some inlcude free admission. www.moma.org.
