"At the right time, can be AWESOME"

The lions at the MGM Grand can be an incredibly amazing place to take your kids, or a complete buzz kill if you arrive at the wrong time.

The difficulty is that the habitat does maintain regular hours (they are closed in the evenings and late night, early morning), but you can also check them in between a lion swap (more to follow) at which point there are no lions in the cage even during the middle of the day.   If you have the time to wait it out, more will eventually come.

The cool perk of the exhibit is that they do a lion swap so that the same lions are only in the exhibit for a few hours a day, and they use this time as play time, eating time for the lions.  This means you usually see playful active lions, and not just sleepy ones who don't ever open their eyes.

Big bonus: Totally free!

"Great!"

I was shocked when we walked in the hotel and saw the lions! It was a great surpise. The lions were awesome! The kids really loved visiting the lion and watching them play. Everyday they wanted to go back to see the lions! The lions loved to play and have fun! I was really afraid that they would be aggresive but they were a great addition to the hotel!

"The Lion Habitat at MGM Grand"

I was very excited to check out the Lion habitat at the MGM Grand hotel.

The lion show is definitely more entertaining if the lions are awake.  The lion encloser was very small, which made you feel extremely sorry for the lions.  The crowds gathered very tightly to see the show, which made the show a  little uncomfortable.

The display glass was incredibly dirty, which made the lion show hard to see.

I do think that the lion show it is worth seeing, just don't get too excited about the show-you might find you yourself feeling dissappointed..

"Not the coolest thing to do."

This exhibit is really cool- under 2 conditions: the lions are there, and they are awake. The lions don't live on-site, they are driven in every day, so they have certain hours/days they are not there. Also, they sleep like 22 hours a day or something crazy like that, so sometimes even if you go there, the kids can't even see them because they're hiding somewhere and sleeping. It's a big let-down if you've promised lions! We prefer the zoo at the Mirage- it isn't free, but there's so much more to do and see there! All in all, I would definitely stop by to look if I was at the MGM, but I wouldn't make a trip out just for them.

"Worth a visit if you are staying nearby"

Just as lions do in the wild, the lions in this enclosure do spend most of their day sleeping.  But what makes this exhibit fun is that often times, the lions choose to sleep on top of a clear acrylic tunnel that your kids can walk under. Yes, its quite a novelty to say you have walked under a lion and certainly a good way to spend 15-20 minutes while exploring the MGM Grand.  The Rainforest Cafe has taken up shop near the Lion Habitat and may be a good tie in to the whole "wild" experience.

"Depends if the lions are awake!"

My family spends a lot of time in Vegas.  While my husband gambles I like to take my daughter on long walks.  We often end up here.  It's amazing to see the lions so close up, much closer than any zoo you can go to.  This is a glass room essentially, not a fenced exhibit.  So the lions are right there.  When they are awake and interacting with the trainers it is really fascinating and beautiful.  My daughter likes the big "kitties" .  I actually find we stay there sometimes for 30 to 45 minutes.  But it all depends if they are awake or asleep.
There is some commentary with some interesting facts about the lions.  I recommend stopping by if your staying at the MGM or in a hotel close by.  Don't go out of your way unless your little one REALLY loves lions.

"Novelty factor, but nothing more "

The MGM Grand has a lion enclosure inside the hotel.  A lot of people find this to be very fascinating, as evidenced by the large group of people gathered around the glass when we were there.  I was disappointed to find that the exhibit was small, the glass dirty and smudged and the lions less than full of good health.  The lions sleep on top of a glass tunnel, through which people are encouraged to pass.  Unfortunately, the glass was either dirty, scratched or frosted to be nearly opaque.  I guess it is worth a couple of stars for the novelty of it, but I was not impressed, instead I was a little saddened.
