I believe the LAIR opened last year, as the new and improved home for the reptile and amphibian set. This facility is a definite upgrade, and (as an added bonus) it's not quite as "stinky" as most reptile/amphibian habitats are! The outdoor alligator "river" and the "desert landscape" inhabitants were my daughter's favorites!
The Lair is the newest addition to the Los Angeles Zoo. The Los Angeles Zoo has been working on this exhibit for about a year. I am here to say it was worth waiting for. This is the most magnificent and comprehensive living reptile, invertebrates, and amphibian exhibit I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Not only is it pleasing to the eye. It is full to the brim with reptiles, invertebrates, and amphibian that many of us have never had the pleasure of seeing in person. From brightly colored frogs and snakes to the cutest horned lizard you will ever see. Being a home schooling family I try to expose my daughter to as much visual stimulation through animal exhibits, the arts and outdoors. This was such a great exhibit to expose her to and get the questions flowing about these amazing creatures. The Los Angeles Zoo did a wonderful job building this habitat.
A nice touch is the area in which you can see the handlers doing their job. They are behind a wall of glass, but you have complete visual access to what they are doing.
