Another one of Pittsburgh’s leading citizens was Henry Clay Frick, who lived at Clayton until 1905, when he moved to New York City (where his next house also became a favorite museum). The Frick Art and Historical Center is a six-acre site that includes Clayton, the Frick Art Museum, historic Car and Carriage Museum, visitor center, and cafe. The Victorian home has been meticulously restored, and about 95 percent of the furnishings are original. The Car and Carriage Museum displays old-fashioned automobiles, sleighs, and carriages. Little ones will be interested in the visitor center, which was once the playhouse of Helen, the Fricks’ daughter. (Please note that neither backpacks nor strollers are permitted in Clayton.)
