You can venture here only by boat.
The Fern Grotto is a naturally formed amphitheater, framed completely by hanging ferns that flourish in the misty, moist air. It’s a romantic, beautiful spot, the kind of place that typifies a tropical island, and it’s a frequent spot for weddings. And whether or not your visit coincides with romantic nuptials, the “Hawaiian Wedding Song” is played here several times a day by local musicians.
Since 1947 Smith’s Motor Boat Service, 821–6892, has ferried visitors to the Fern Grotto. On the way, passengers are entertained by musicians, singers, dancers, and master storytellers of local legends. Cruises depart daily, every half hour, from Wailua Marina, 9:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. Cruise is $16.00 for adults, $8.00 for children ages two to twelve, free for children younger than two.
