It’s easy to drive right by the Eastern Shore of Virginia National Wildlife Refuge,
because it’s just before the northern terminus of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge–Tunnel.
The wildlife refuge is a surprise with 1,100 acres of forests, myrtle thickets, grasslands,
and ponds. At this roadside oasis, the distant sounds of traffic are almost obliterated
by the twittering of scores of birds and the swish of bushes and leaves in the
