If you live anywhere near boston, most likely you or your kids have been here. I went when I was little and took my kids last year. they got a huge kick out of it and for that i had a good time as well. but this tour is a great opportunity to see of all boston and learn some of the history.I just wish the cost was a little less.
The Duck Tours are great for kids because the giant truck/boat goes straight from the road into the Charles River. The tour itself is slightly boring unless your into that type of thing. There are a bunch of different companies in town that have these boats. Look around for the best price. They have carts set up in Fanueil Hall Marketplace
After being a Boston resident for 6 years, I finally made it onto a Duck Tour. I was a bit hesitant at first as I knew my way around the city, and also felt like I knew a fair share of information too-these tours are for anyone, Boston resident or visitor! The driver was exceptionally entertaining and the information he passed along was interesting (some completely new). It's exciting for kids to go from land to sea in the same vehicle and also to see Boston from such an interesting view.
As a Boston native, I really enjoyed getting a new look at the city. Duck Tours seem like they are highly dependent upon which tour guide you get. If you get someone who is friendly and tries to make you laugh with the jokes, you should have a good time! You will leave the tour with more information about Boston that you didn't know prior.
This eighty-minute land-and-sea tour is offered on a “duck,” an amphibious World War II craft that travels both on land and in the Charles River. The rain-or-shine tour is lots of fun, and you will get many friendly stares as you wind your way through the streets of Boston (possibly because the driver will have you quacking!).
Once on the Charles River, the driver/narrator will ask for volunteers to pilot the duck. Both my daughter and her boarding-school roommate from Thailand found this to be the best part of the tour. This tour also is the one that seems to be the biggest hit with kids.
NOTE: A limited number of tickets are released five days prior but sell out by noon, purchased at the ticket counter or online (www.bostonducktours.com); there are no exchanges or refunds.
What fun this tour was. Our tour boat driver was PJ. She drove the pink bus. She had the most personality, and made our tour more fun that I could have imagined!
We got to see the whole city on concrete and in the water! WHAT FUN! Everyone should try this tour atleast one time!
This was a really fun trip and great way to see Boston with kids. You embark upon your journey in a WWII amphibious landing vehicle. The guides are usually pretty funny and you get to learn some fun facts about Boston. Great when your kids are tired of walking and need a break, but you still want to explore and get to know Boston. Best duck tour we've taken.
We took the duck tour with my husband's parents and we all enjoyed it. It was a great way to get a taste of Boston without having to walk and also learn a little about the history, architecture and culture of the city from the guide. My 16-month old son fell asleep midway through the tour, but he did enjoy being on the amphibious vehicle.
We were a sleepy two year old and tired parents, and wanted to see the town without all the walking! It worked great to give us an overview so we could decide a few places to visit ourselves, and was fun for the little one! It was also great because we went in the Fall when it was a bit cold for walking.
The Duck tours are a wonderful way to see Boston on land and sea and to hear about it's history. You are taken all over downtown on a WWII vehicle that doubles as a boat as you crash into the Charles River. The drivers each have a "personality" to portray and have a wonderful Boston accent. Do remember that you are on a tour, so little children might not want to sit still for the entire ride. However, the ride down the Charles is a nice way to break it up. I've done this tour several times and hope to do it again...I learn something new each time.
An ingenuous use of amphibious ex-military vehicles! Kids will get a great kick out of it as they tour around to all the historic areas of Boston, from Bunker Hill to Boston Commons and to the Big Dig. Guides/Drivers usually tailor their tours to the age group. The highlight for any child - the big splash into the Charles River. Children get to drive the duckboat when its in the water.
Not suitable for kids unable to sit still for the 80 minute tour. Ideal for kids who have had some Amercian History under their belt. With mid-teenagers, I would suggest walking the Freedom Trail over the rather expensive duck boat tour but they might beg to differ.
