The City Museum in St. Louis has a children's playground, funhouse, surrealistic pavilion, and architectural marvel made out of unique, found objects. Most of the areas are geared for school-aged kids, but there is an area called Toddler Town for little tikes.
This is such a cool and unique place!! Be sure to allow yourself a whole day to spend here. There are several floors with many different activities. It has the worlds largest Pencil which is no joke (76 ft long). The kids could climb around on it!! They have a restraunt inside for lunch which is so nice so that you can stay. Our favorite was definitely the roof. The building is several stories tall with a farris wheel, large slides, tarzan ropes, and so much more...
When you visit the City Museum, you can tell that is was designed for one purpose: Fun. There are fun and different exhibits, kids' art activities and huge art pieces the kids can climb on. But our families' favorite part is the HUGE MonstroCity park which uses crazy things like a jet fuselage and 4 foot wide metal slinkies to give kids (and adults) areas to crawl around in all day. Be warned, some of the spaces are a little tight for adults, but your kids will want to play in here all day! Also, there is a play land area especially for toddlers and younger kids. The lines are sometimes long, but you really can't go wrong taking the family to the City Museum!
The City Museum is one of the most unique "museums" I have every seen. This is a hands-on, climb-on museum that is fun for all ages. There are both indoor and outdoor activities. There is not an easy way to describe this museum, other than saying its the coolest place my family has ever been. Inside there are tunnels to crawl in and more areas to explore than you could ever get to in one day. I highly recommend this museum if you are visiting the St. Louis area!
We couldn't be more impressed with this "museum". The typical 'hands off, be quiet' idea of a museum does not exist here, and it is enjoyable by people young and old alike. The museum is constructed completely of 'stuff' from the city's past: an old bus, steel, you name it. The best part, the museum is constructed very well aesthetically and is also meant to be climbed all over and explored in depth. There are nooks and crannies everywhere that ask for exploring, there are tunnels in the ceiling, a large climbing feature outside with an adult sized ball pit, an aquarium at the top of the museum (extra charge), and a ferris wheel on the roof. (The bus is also on the roof and hangs off the edge, very interesting!) There is a huge slide that goes from one floor of the museum to another, as well as a lot of attractions like arts and crafts, etc, for smaller kids. (Kids cannot be dropped off at this museum, parents have to be with their children as it is considered an 'adult' playland.) It's a great family outing! It's worth every penny you spend on admission!
This is one of the coolest kids places I have ever been! There are tons of things to do here! You could literally spend all day here. Appropriate for all ages. You can even find things to do if you don't have kids. Another great thing is it seems like there always adding new things to do!
Everytime we have been to the City Museum, it has been wonderful. This is a multi=level museum that includes a craft area, a train and even an aquarium! Located in downtown St. Louis it is easy to find and there is an on=site restaurant with very yummy, familiy friendly food. This is best for kids ages at least 3 and up, there is lots of climbing and places that may be a little scary.
I have not been with my kids - 3,3, and 1, but have been as an adult. There are a ton of climbing things, indoor and outdoor, huge slides, an indoor circus, and lots of hands-on activities. The only drawback is that it would be very easy to lose track of your children, or for your children to get stuck in a tunnel or space where you would have to climb in and retrieve them, hence why I think it's best left to older children and look forward to taking ours in a few years.
This is a great place to spend a day with the family. I think its definitely geared towards kids over the age of 7. Just as entertaining for adults, too! Crafts and activities are included in the price of admission which is a little expensive in my opion. Lots of "add ons" like the kids circus and aquarium are available.
Love this place! Yes, it's quirky, and over the top, and maybe a little scary if your kids aren't used to exploring... but I wish we could go back again and again!
There's so much to look at and touch and climb on that I don't think a full day does it justice. We went with a preschooler and a toddler and they had a ball. It's hard to say what my favorite thing was -- the maze of tunnels and nooks, the slides, the architectural bits, the World's Largest Underpants...
Just stretch out a little and prepare to wear the kids out after a day here!
City Museum is lots of fun and you can spend at least half a day there is not a full day. I do think it's more catered toward the ages of 6-12. There is stuff for the younger kids to do but some of it can be too big or scary for the toddlers. I suggests your kids wear tennis shoes as there is lots of climbing and they may lose sandals.
This children's museum is literally unbelievable. There are so many different exhibits and things to do inside that you could spend an entire day there...and come back the next day and still have things to do. There are huge slides that kids will love. There are caverns to explore, crafts, live entertainment and food. The outside is amazing and there are more places to climb and slide, as well as completely unusual items like a school bus, airplanes and a fire engine. There are also two ball pits for children- one for big kids and one for little kids. A word of caution, this place is an architectural masterpiece which is awe-inspiring as an observer, but pretty anxiety-producing as a parent. Everything inside and out is a bit of a maze. You can't be sure where a tunnel or a slide leads which means you either need to bring children old enough to be out of eye shot, or you need to be prepared to jump into the fun too and go with your children. There is an area specifically for toddlers, but it is not enough of a draw if you only have small children. There is an aquarium on-site that requires separate admission that is okay, but nothing special.
I had more fun here than I've had anywhere in a long time!! There are so many fun things to do and see that I was amazed and they are adding more things all the time. This is a great palce for families, but when I went I did not have my young children. if you do go with smaller children, ther are so many places for them to get away from you, so you'd have to talk about staying together or have a meeting place if you get separated. but going with my bigger kids, they had so many great places to explore and look around. plus, trying to be "green", everything there is made out of recycled parts and I enjoyed seeing what things were made from. I took lots of pictures and still enjoy looking at them. I have also told many people that it's a great palce to go. My favorite was a huge slide that I went down super fast because of the pants I was wearing. you don't go fast in jeans, so sit on your jacket :)
We didn't have too much fun here. It was way too pricy for what there was to do with a 4 yr old. I think it would more fun if we went in summer. But when we went it was winter, cold, and not fun!! There was a lot of walking, the slides were fun for my son, but that was about it.
A truely original take on a childrens museum. Lots of fun climbing, sliding and playing but I wouldn't recomend it for a child under 6. There are a lot of places for a small (or too large) person to get stuck. I went 3 years ago as a shaperone with a youth group from our church. There were a lot of tunnels to climb through and some really big slides. But I can see a child who's young or timid getting into spots and being to frightened or nervous to get out. I wish I could give more of a discription of the museum but it's one of those places you just have to see to understand.
To sum up, all in all it was fun but not for little kids or those who are out of shape. I'm of average build and my husband is skinny and there were a few spots even we had problems climbing through.
This was a fun museum, although not your average children's museum. Although there are some areas for younger children, it really is suited best for grade schoolers and up. If you keep an open mind and are willing to try new things you will be entertained and surprised.
Boy do I wish someone had invented this museum when I was a kid! It sends the imagination soaring! Beautiful, creative, and enormously impressive, this museum has it all when it comes to adventure! It's really more for older children though. Maybe ages 5 - 11, or so. It might be overwhelming, and frankly, could be dangerous for younger children.
A great place for adults (without kids) and kids of all ages. Mosaic animals, three story slides, airplanes and buses hanging from the sky. Entrance includes crafts. Cafe indoors. Cheaper after 5pm and open till late (1am) on Saturday. You can get married there or just go for the face painting. They have circus shows every few hours. Don't need to pay for parking, you can park on the block. Expect to stay 3-4 hours.
