The newly renovated Children's Aquarium at Fair Park is open (previously known as the Dallas Aquarium at Fair Park). Come and check-out stingrays, jellyfish, white alligators, snapping turtles, and more.
Many of the animals were missing. Much of the coral is dead. It is very small and takes about 30 minutes to walk through. I saw the other reviews that said it was newly renovated. I wonder what it looked like before.. The Dallas World Aquarium is much better, but also much more expensive ($22 per adult vs $8). Shark tank is ok, childrens petting area for rays is good. We will not be going back.
Our family went to the Aquarium and my son loved everything about this place. He loves all of the fish displays and thought every fish was Nemo. It is a bit pricey to get in so we will not be going that often. Other than the price I have no complaints.
To start with, we went through the whole thing - BACKWARDS. The signage wasn't great and neither was the staff. It was frustrating to wonder - "what the heck?" I know - we're idiots. But seriously, just using intuition isn't going to be enough for me. It would have been nice for the staff members to point to the starting line. Other than that, the displays are okay. As other reviewers have said it's small and if you've been to other zoos you might be disappointed.
We were in town recently visiting family and decided to bring my 3 year old daughter to check-out the newly opened Children's Aquarium in Dallas' Fair Park. We went on a weekday morning and it wasn't too crowded which was nice.
The aquarium is small (spent about an hour there), but it's a nice size for preschoolers. You don't have to feel pressured to stay a long time. The floors are raised, so that my little half-pint lady could see everything without asking me to lift her up. My arms thank you for that.
We were able to catch a piranha feeding which was awesome. They really go nuts and the kids love all the action. Be sure to get there a bit before it starts because it certainly got crowded and your little one will probably want a spot, front and center.
If you're visiting Dallas for the first-time or you've got older kids, I'd skip this and head over to the Dallas World Aquarium. They've got a lot more stuff for them to interact and engage with. However, for the 5 and under crowd and for local moms this is a great spot to come for playdate. Wish there was something like this back in Jersey.
I recently visited with another mom and our kids (two 3-year olds and two infants). The aquarium has been nicely renovated and the new sting ray bay was a hit with our 3 year old boys.
It's a great price ($8 adult, $6 for ages 3-11) compared to the Dallas World Aquarium which is $23 for adults and $18 for kids. However, you do get what you pay for. We easily spend about 2-3 hours at the World Aquarium. Here it'll take you about an hour or less to get through aquarium.
Overall, the aquarium is a decent place to go if you have younger kids who have a smaller attention span or are just looking or an outing that's a bit more casual.
There are no concessions, but we had packed lunches and ate outside in Fair Park. I am glad we went, but not sure if I'll be back again.
The newly renovated aquarium in Fair Park, now renamed "The Children's Aquarium at Fair Park" is a great place for kids 8 and under. Cool exhibits are the albino alligator, large sting ray bay, coastal touch pool and everything is eye-level for kids 4 feet and under.
The aquarium had been open since the Texas State Fair in September, but not all the exhibits were completed then. The grand opening is now coming on December 3rd and everything's finally in place. There's even free admission for the grand opening weekend of December 3-5 to welcome folks to the new aquarium.
Be sure to take note of the feeding schedule. My son always enjoys those.
Your kids should love the daily shark and piranha feedings at the Dallas Aquarium. The Aquarium also features more than 375 species of marine and freshwater fish, reptiles, and amphibians.
