Bobcats arena is also home to The Charlotte Checkers, an professional hockey affiliate of the New York Rangers and a member of the Eastern Conference Hockey League. Charlotte is known as the birthplace of professional hockey in the South, and the Charlotte Checkers are proud to be part of that history. Following a seventeen-year hiatus from hockey, Charlotte welcomed the Checkers back in 1993. Since their return, the Checkers have made the playoffs nine times—highlighted by an ECHL Championship in 1996. Despite hockey’s rough-and-tumble reputation, the organization makes games a great family-oriented event complimented by the state-of-the-art arena.
