"Tennis anyone?"

After opting to walk rather than ride the comfortable shuttle bus over to the Sports Center, I checked in at the Pro Shop for my early morning private lesson and clinic.  The parking valets greeted me warmly.  The Pro Shop has a great selection of new equipment, stylish clothes and helpful staff able to answer any questions you might have.  On this warm dewy morning, I was the first one at the tennis courts.  The courts were well manicured and surrounded by blooming flowers.  I’m anticipating a great morning of tennis lessons and hope to take home some new tips to improve my game.

The Sports Center has everything you might need for your tennis outing including water, towels, locker rooms with showers and new clothes or equipment to reward yourself for all of your hard work on the courts.

I met the director of tennis for a half hour one-on-one lesson.  Within minutes, he was able to identify my problems and offered some great advice.  He adjusted my grip and swing.  Wow! What a difference it made!  My new grip sent most of the balls into the net before I finally got used to it.   The accuracy wasn’t quite there yet, but the power was there.   He said I was I was one of his best pupils ever.  What is the difference between an Eastern grip and a Full Western grip?  This tennis instructor can tell you!

Immediately after my one-on-one lesson, I met with another tennis instructor for a one hour group clinic.  This clinic was the perfect time to apply what I just learned.  We practiced repetitive drills to strengthen muscle memory and I watched my swing improve.  I let my instructor know exactly what I hoped to get out of the clinic and he was very accommodating.   Others in the clinic wanted to learn how to hit with more power, correct their form, tweek their serve, and socialize.   Fortunately, this pro really managed our group clinic very well.

On other courts, I watched 6-12 year olds excitedly learning tennis in their own group lessons.  The clinic for kids is very successful.  Kids dressed in their tennis hat, sunglasses and sun screen excitedly running up to their tennis instructors made me look forward to the day when I could send my preschooler to The Breakers for tennis clinics!

It was a fun morning of tennis. I recommend a one-on-one lesson to learn new tips and then take a clinic to apply what you have just learned.  After an hour and half of instruction, I felt great about my tennis experience at The Breakers.  I’ll be back to hit around again!
