"Fun with the Family"

The art lovers in our family have always been awestruck by the paintings at the Barnes Foundation, one of the nation’s most amazing private collections of Impressionist and post-Impressionist art. This collection remained one of the art world’s best-kept secrets until a national tour took many of its masterpieces to several major museums.
Dr. Albert C. Barnes was a physician and businessman by vocation, but art and education were his great loves, and he held very definite opinions about them. He collected more than 180 Renoirs, 70 Cézannes, and many Matisses, including a mural specifically commissioned for the gallery. The wall ensembles explore light, line, color, and space in an amazing multicultural array that includes works by van Gough, Picasso, El Greco, Soutine, and Glackens, as well as Greek, Roman, Egyptian, and Native American artists.
Audio tour and gift shop available. Wheelchair accessible, with diapering facilities in the ladies’ restroom. The Barnes is within fifteen minutes of Suburban Square, Ardmore, for shopping or a bite to eat at Ruby’s Diner.
