The Museum of Ancient Life at Thanksgiving Point exhibits the world's largest display of mounted dinosaurs with hands-on acitivities including an erosion table and fossil dig.
Closed Sundays
Our family really enjoyed the Museum of Ancient Life. Our kids are really into dinosaurs, and loved seeing all of the different dinosaur bones. The main dinosaur that stretches across the whole main hall was really cool to look at. I love how kid friendly the museum is, with different hands on exhibits they can participate in. The only negative for the museum is the admission price, which I think is way too high.
My 2 year old daughter loves this place! We've been mostly on 2 Buck Tuesdays in the summer when it's super crowded, but we don't mind the crowds. The museum is very well done, with lots of hands on exhibits for kids, a water table station, digging for fossils in sand. The kids have a blast! I wish it were a little more spacious, especially in the sand area at the end, but other than that it's great.
If you're looking for dinosaur fun close to the big city, this is the place to go. There are lots of dinosaur bones for the children to play with. We love going here in the summer when they do their $2 days. In the past it's been on Tuesdays and you can choose a Thanksgiivng Point Activity to do for $2. I'm all about cheap fun!
This Museum is perfect size for all ages. it's small enough you can go through in a matter of hours or, large enough you can take as much time as you want or have. We love walking underneath the giant dino bones and looking through the windows at paleontologist's latest work! They have fossil galore and displays of extinct animals native to this area. The sand and water table area and dinosaur digging sandboxes are kids favorites!
This is a great museum for the first time. The kids went through the whole place in less than an hour in subsequent visits. For the price I don't think it is worth it unless you hit it up in August when they are doing their $2 Tuesdays. There are a few interactive displays including some water tables and at the end there is an archaeological dig the kids can play in.
My boys love seeing the dinosaurs here. My family recently bought a pass here and have been many times. The highlight for our family is the sand and water areas. Young children can play for a long time and get out their energy here. The skeletal dinosaur display is impressive and the children's discovery area at the entrance is fun for children as well. We will continue to be regular visitors to this museum because it is so child friendly.
There are several museums in Utah where you can see dinosaurs including a small Paleontology Museum on BYU campus (next to the stadium), the Natural History Museum of Utah at the U of U campus, one in Vernal, one in St. George, etc--but Thanksgiving Point has the best set up by far. There are many kid friendly activities--an exploration room at the very start, an errosion set up with sand, and a "build your own dinosaur" area. The rooms are very large so it doesn't get too crowded around individual displays. You can move slowly and take several hours, or move more quickly through your favorite displays. Thanksgiving Point offers family memberships as well as many special activities every month. It's a wonderful place I visit over and over. I always see something new I didn't notice before!
My son has always loved the "Dinosaur Museum," as he calls it. There are a great variety of dinosaurs to look at and activities for kids of varying ages. He is fascinated by the tunnel through space, and thoroughly enjoys both the wet and dry sand areas. Our only complaint is it's a bit pricey, or we would go more than once a year.
I try to take my young children (both under 5) here at least once a year. In August they usually have $2 admission on Tuesdays. It does bring a crowd, but to me is worth the savings. This is really a great museum and I was impressed with how much there was to see there. When I first saw the building I was sure it was just a gimmicky attraction, but after going I really consider it a museum that will inspire all. It covers many aspects of dinosaurs including: how their fossils are found, ancient life, lots of skeletons, a great water table, and hands on learning. I would plan on being there about an hour to an hour and a half.
We LOVE this Dinosaur Museum!!! They just have so many great things for the kids to keep bust they have a ton of dino bones. They also have a really fun place where you can dig in water and sand and build your own little dinosaur village, they have a place were you can build your own dinosuar out of a ton a different peices and at the very end you can dig for bones.
We LOVE this Dinosaur Museum! We pass it a few times a year on the freeway and see the huge dinosaur painted outside. BUT it's like $12 per adult and $8 per child, so feasibly our family of 7 would be spending a pretty penny to go here. We went last year during August when it was only $2 per person, and the price for that is that it took about 20 minutes to get in and then all the activity tables were VERY crowded. BUT for the inexpensive month it was worth it to us. (Just go early in the morning or LATER in the day when it's less crowded). There are TONS of interactive things for the kiddos to do and it is COOL! There are sand tables and digging sand spots and things to touch! They dinorsaurs looks so well-made and very cool in their "environments". We will be back (next August!)
They have a lot of things to look at, and things to do. The place is actually a pretty good size. They also have things called mammoth screens and the screens are 50 feet high or something rather. They have tons of dinosaur things to look and play with, we liked it.
This dinosaur museum has tons of stuff the keep kids busy. One of the favorites was a water station that they could build things in. There was also a room with sand that they could dig around in to see what they could find. In addition to those things there was a lot of information on dinosaurs and dinosaur bones to look at.
I went here last year and took my 1 ytear old son and 3 ytear old daughter. We were in there for a good 3 hours. They have gift shop, restaurant and a movie theatre and museum inside this building. They had a very fun arrangment of all the dinosaurs and burds and reptiles, the rooms were theme and there were many learning hands on acvtivities for children to enjoy as well.
We went to this museum when they had a $2 night. It was absolutey crazy but we loved it. There were some hands on things for the kids to do along with the enormous dinosaurs to see. There is a paleontology lab you can see into and see how they work on the bones. It doesn't take to long but it is a couple of hours of fun. My kids were 2 and 4 at the time.
We went to visit our cousins in Orem and on Saturday we decided to head to Thanksgiving Point. I had passed by it so many times on the way to SLC and back but never had gone in the museum. There were huge dinosaurs, fun interactive computers, a place for the kids to "dig" for dinosaur bones, and a giant sand table with running water for the kids to play with. The boys had to be dragged from each place to go to the next place. I would like to go back again!
My kids loved this place! It is a great place for children of all ages because they can learn on so many levels. There are many hands-on activities, computers with videos and other activities they can do, and then they usually plaques to read along with each display for older children or adults. We were able to get in for free, so I'm not sure how I would feel about the price, but I think it would definitely be worth it to pay for at least occasionally.
We have been to a lot of dinosaur museums but this one is the best. There are lots of interactive exhibits, a huge dino dig area, and so may dinosaur skeletons! My kids and I both loved it. The 3D movie was not really worth it for us, though. The kids liked the museum more.
Great museum for kids! There are a lot of interactive exhibits throughout the museum for different ages of kids. You can also get a discount ticket to the movies shown there with your museum ticket purchase. The screen is a huge 3D screen. Worth the drive down to Lehi.
We took our boys, 2 & 4 about a week before Christmas. There was tons af cool activities that took us fromthe beginning of matter through the dinosaur times. Lots of interactive things like building your own BIG dinosaur out of different parts and creating floods/washouts at a water & sand table. All indoors so is great for a winter activity or when it's too hot to be outside. We were there over 2 hours and the kids had a blast and would have stayed longer but it was starting to get busy. Try the nearb deli by the Water tower, food was FANTASTIC and very reasonable. Probably the best burger I've ever had, fries were great too. They had live reindeer (for the season) and a drive through Christmas lights. The lights were ok, kind of a long wait to go through, we'd pass on that next time. Looking forward to going again to the museum.
