One of the most recognized law-enforcement agencies in the world is the Texas Rangers. The Rangers established Fort Fisher here in 1837, making the region safe for settlers. The Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum is housed in a replica of that original fort at University Parks Drive on the shore of Lake Brazos. The fort serves as headquarters for Company Fof the Rangers and also as a museum of the agency’s colorful history. Included are an extensive firearms collection, examples of western art, Native Amercan artifacts, dioramas, and a slide show. Many of the docents are retired Rangers, so you can get the history from an expert. Fort Fisher is also a thirty-five-acre park with camping and picnic facilities.
